I’m kind of in the same boat. I have a collection of mechanical watches that I love, and I kept trying Apple Watches each time a new version would come out hoping it’d thrill me and it never did.

I finally got used to valuing them for what they do well (for me, that’s fitness tracking, quick-glance IM notifications, and directions when walking in foreign cities) and not expecting them to replace my phone. But I returned several before landing on a series 7 and enjoying it for those scenarios. The always-on face that appeared in series 6 helped push me over the edge to adopting it.

Differences??

Watch app just has lock/unlock and start functionality, which is nice. Phone app includes mileage, DTE, tire pressure, oil life, last known vehicle location, trouble codes etc.

hah... win. Remote start/(un)lock is cool but do this near-daily fordpass notifications hit my watch too? because i'm out if i have to deal with that. like every other day I get some stupid notification from that app.

Well, I was hoping I wouldn't need to explain the obvious (or so I thought) sarcasm here. Wear OS devices are still a small fraction of what market share the Apple watch has and I doubt there will be much reason for Ford to work on an app any time soon.
