I'll go with one of the shackle mounts myself. Don't really care if there's a plate up front or not, but I don't want holes drilled into my front in case I find a mount I like better. I'll make it clear to my dealer to NOT mount the plate and if they have to by some law, I'll supply the shackle mount. And eventually maybe come up with something I like better myself, if after market doesn't catch up. Strong magnets glued to the plate might work, just add some string hidden behind, just in case you hit a pothole and the plate comes free, keep it tied to the bumper anyways, even if flopping around.
We need them here for the toll bridges and lanes, so gotta have them if I want to use those. Never bothered me either, just don't like those drilled holes, goes against my OCD regarding hole drilling where not necessary.
I am going to try this with the manufacturer plate holder. Plate screwed into plate holder then magnets is the plan as of now. I am busy at work but will let you know how it works. Hopefully next week I will get this done.

I’ll be using the Bronco bolts to attach my license plate to the front bash plate. There are various Bronco owners that have already done this. All you need is some 16 gauge metal and the ability to put a bend in it and drill some holes and you’re done. And anytime I do some heavy duty off roading I’ll just unbolt it.

That looks great..but for someone that has no idea, where would you buy a piece of sheet metal like that? What would you use to cut it to fit?

Lowe’s and Home Depot sell it and if you ask nicely they may even cut it for you Or any small local shop would do it for you. Personally since I have a mechanics garage and all the accompanying tools for $12 and a half hour of my time I’ll be all set 😉

This post has me thinking that instead of putting a forward bend in the plate steel to match the angle of the Bronco’s bash plate I will put a reverse bend in it. This will serve two purposes. One it will give the plate a bit more give if I bash it into anything and more importantly with this type of mount I can place the license plate up higher, just below the inter cooler opening. I’ll just have to drill two larger access holes in the mounting plate so I have access to the bronco bolts holding it to the bash plate. Once the license plate is mounted it will cover up those access holes 😉

I may try and make a modification to mount it with a locking hitch pin instead of the bolt - that way it can be quickly removed without tools if I need to attach a shackle.
Damn, that's a good idea.

other than the swarfworks relocation bracket (marketed specifically for 2015+ f-150 and raptor), is there any other solution for the base(plastic) bumper?

Stupid question: Why steel? Won’t that rust? Any reason you didn’t use aluminum?

Not mechanically inclined at all. The fact I can tie my own shoes is a miracle.

I haven’t actually built anything yet, I don’t even have a vin# for my 2-door First Edition Bronco. I currently live in Michigan which only requires a rear license plate but next year I’m moving to Hawaii so I will build a front license plate holder before I move. You do want something halfway durable like steel since it’s going to be down in front of the bash plate and most likely taking a beating like in my case. If you use steel you definitely need to apply a rust proof coating. Aluminum would definitely work for anybody who will not be doing any hard-core off-roading 😉

Thanks for the tips!

Whoever is the first to make these mounts on this forum will be a millionaire. I’d pay someone to make one for me and ship it.

I'm going to run a batch with that upwards mounting design. Thanks for the inspiration there.
