The OEM’s want to create another revenue stream, through subscriptions. The maps app on my Expedition is good for three years, then I have to pay. My lease is for three years, so I don’t plan on paying. Besides, I use CarPlay’s maps. Mercedes just announced a subscription to enhance performance for $1200 per year. Someone that’s a techie, will figure out how to unlock the feature without paying, but this is the future in the automotive world. Right now, Apple CarPlay comes with the iPhone and is free. Let’s see how long that lasts.

What Mercedes needs to do is announce a subscription plan that would enhance reliability, now that would be something worth paying for.

I didn't realize the OBD MX+ wasn't sufficient enough to do this. Those J2534 adapters are pricey!! Not sure Iw ant to spent $500+ for an adapter and $50+ for a license. I did find a good video that probably covers the process:

Used to be a hacker (first DefCon was DefCon IV in 1996). At DefCon VII was on stage for the unveiling of Back Orfice with Mudge and Deth Veggie (I bet that Francis was there too), all the CDC guys were there.

Anyway, I am updating modules, and currently it's a painfully slow process. I have managed to get updated to 22087 rev 415, but still shows sync 1.9.0 on the Sync update screen. There are obvious changes. Getting an error trying to update the TCU, some BS about no files in FENIX. I may have to call Ford to see what TF that means.

Hacking was so much easier years ago... LOL.

APIM is the only one you need to update for full screen car play. Updating them all, as I’m sure you are aware by now, is going to take forever.

yes, but TCU has to be updated before I can update APIM further. I tried without it.
