So I have used the Fumoto valves on more than a dozen cars over the last 15 years and love their products. I have written and called them a few times over the last 2 years asking them to make a product for Ford's plastic oil pans. Well today, I received an email from them asking if I wanted to beta test their new product. Currently, my wife drives a 2018 Lariat with the plastic oil drain plug.

BTW .. this is important as the 2.7L and 3.0L (Bronco Raptor/Warthog) both have plastic oil drain plugs.

I hope I am selected because if this product comes to market then I am sure many 2.7L owners will be very happy.

See pic below.

I too am a long time Fumoto valve customer. Thank you for pushing them on this….with any luck I’ll have one on deck for the first oil change.

Huh...interesting. I used to used a brass one on my TDI.

What's the benefit of plastic drain plugs/pans?

I am out of the loop on new car tech. Ha!

One advantage not so much the material, but the size of the drain plug (very large) allows the fluid to rush out faster creating a flush effect for debris on the bottom of the pan.

If I remember correctly, one of the biggest gripes with the plastic pans is that if you aren't careful removing the drain plug, they need to be replaced every other oil change.

I am not familiar with these drain plugs, or really with plastic oil pans, but it looks like you don't need to fully remove them and can just twist the red knob to drain. Should be a lot cleaner than removing a traditional plug.

Right, that was always the benefit of the Fumoto...but, I can't wrap my head around plastic oil pans...

So rather than playing a game of chicken with the oem plug and guessing whether the oil will shoot 4’ across and out the passenger side, you’re saying they finally make the Fumoto calve for the f150? Is this for the 3.5 or just the 2.7?

i bought one for my jeep a few yrs back, drained my oil, put the valve in, filled it back with oil, went to reinstall my skid plate (that has a cutout for drain and crap, wouldnt go on. Ended up draining it and reusing the old plug lol.

Weight and material cost. Every ounce helps!

Seems kind of sketchy for an off-road vehicle, but nothing a good skid/bash plate can't fix. I believe the factory bash plate completely protects the oil pan. I also think I read a while back there are metal aftermarket replacements available and some other members plan on swapping.

I'm a huge fan of them. I instantly put them in my previous 2 vehicles. It made changing oil so much easier and I never had any of them leak in the past. But by the look of this I'm worried it will hang down to far and possibily get damanged while off-roading. And if something hits this; it may also damage the plastic oil pan. Which is why I dont plan on getting one for the Bronco

I am not sure how you know it will hang low when the pic I posted looks like a generic pic?

You know damn good and well that no one builds anything anymore... get outta here with that nonsense. 😉

Edit: next you’ll expect folks to add a barb and piece of hose to drain it directly into an old oil jug... WTH
