I know it has been a long wait for a lot of you (as it was for me) but days like this are why I hung in there. I hope this helps those of you still waiting. Btw these things absolutely bomb through the snow. (2021 Badlands Squatch vs 18” of fresh snow. ) had to shorten clip for it to upload but you get the idea ;)

I have not really used the goat modes because frankly I have not spent anytime figuring out what they do. When bombing off road like this I turn off any/all traction control so that you get wheel spin to allow the back end to swing around as needed. So just put it in 4H and turn traction controll all the way off by holding down the traction control button on the dash board for a few seconds(count down screen pops up in the instrument panel showing you how long to hold it down). I am assuming there is probably a goat mode for that but is probably more of a “Baja” mode setting which I don’t think the badlands comes with. Been 4wheeling a long time so I just manually turn on/off lockers 4L/4H given the conditions.

You should try Baja mode as it keeps the turbos spooled up so you have power on demand like a beer tap plus it changes the shift points. You'll swear you are in a 4x4 rally car. Its very excellent in deep soft sand so I'd imagine it's awesome in snow. I'll find out soon.

Yeah I def will do that next time I am out. The shift points and keeping the turbo spooled is THE reason to use the goat modes for me. This was just an impromptu detour. Was going to run errands and couldn’t resist all the fresh snow :) now that I have looked in to the goat mods and what they do I will definitely be messing around with them.

First day of snow around here, too. Nothing like that, just enough to keep the roads slippery. What I loved is that the traction control is hand-off even if just left alone. I can get a bit of wheelspin in 2A, let the back end step out just enough to smoothly glide around a corner. And yet, on the stock tires, there was no drama on the 35 mph highway turns covered in slush (Wildtrack, SAS). I tried it in "Slippery" as well, which reduced the fun but worked well in terms of no drama as well.

Yep I messed around with the goat modes a little yesterday. They do a good job of combining different elements of the system (shit points, transfer case and lockers) for different terrain. A great thing for folks new to 4wd to just be able to spin a dial and know they are safe.

That is part Mt Shasta in Northen CA. They logged the flanks of the mountain 40-60 years ago so there are a bunch of tree farms with tons of roads. This video is shot at about 5000.
