I decided instead of being a whiny little beotch I would just sit down, and run the numbers. This calculator helped me get over the Bronco's posted mpg numbers. The difference isn't as bad as my imagination lead me to believe. Hope it will help others.

Note: Please forgo the urge to post something like, "If you want mpgs you should buy a Prius". I don't need that, and I'm sure others don't either. Thanks.

21mpg - $2,019.05 annually = $38.83 weekly
23mpg - $1,843.48 annually = $35.45 weekly
25mpg - $1,696.00 annually = $32.62 weekly
27mpg - $1,570.37 annually = $30.20 weekly
29mpg - $1,462.07 annually = $28.12 weekly
31mpg - $1,367.74 annually = $26.30 weekly
33mpg - $1,284.85 annually = $24.71 weekly
35mpg - $1,211.43 annually = $23.30 weekly
37mpg - $1,145.95 annually = $22.04 weekly

I'm a little curious if there's things that can be done to improve the real world MPG.

How much of an effect will driving in eco mode and being very easy on the throttle have?

The joke with ecoboost engines is that they are either eco or boost, no inbetween, and when you are in boost your MPG goes into the toilet. I guess what people are guessing is that at highway speeds you have to be in boost to maintain the speed which kills the MPG :/

With my Ranger I've found that how I start from a dead stop has a lot to do with the mpgs. I've learned to keep my foot out of the turbo when starting off, and that has worked wonders for the mpgs. Thus helping to prove that old saying.

I've found that after owning the Ranger for a while I can hear the difference in the engine sound when the turbo kicks in. The sound from the turbo is subtle, but it's there in mine.

My average cost of gas goes up to a whooping $16 per fill up. I'm not upset

I know what you mean. We'll use the Bronco the same way we use our Jeep. Long road trips with back roads, and trails thrown in along the way. I entered 5000 (highway) miles into the calculator, and the difference was 125 bucks difference between the Jeep and the Bronco. Not a bank breaker at all for me.

only ever really will make a difference on longer road trips to me, my day to day driving is so little, I won't even notice if it's 17 or 21 (or the 14 or so my Taco gets).

I'd prefer more range over less, don't like jerry cans. But as long as I can gas up close to a trail, I'll probably never hit the range limits either unless I really get into multi day far out overlanding. Then I'll just have to get some of those ugly cans to hang somewhere. That'll be a couple years from now, if ever, so by then I can either trade up for the hybrid or aftermarket might have a larger tank on offer.

I care far less about mileage than range. If the 4 door came with a 26 gallon tank it'd be perfect but even with the 20.8 gallon tank range should be about 350 miles which is adequate. I purchased my Yukon Denali XL over the standard Yukon because it came with a 32 gallon tank. I can cruise for over 6 hours without stopping for fuel.

"hurrr, just cancel so I can move up"

Gas will get more expensive, so mileage should be a genuine concern. But, unless gas goes absolutely through the roof, the difference between this and an equivalent large crossover/SUV/Truck shouldn't be enough to break the bank.

Do you wear a diaper when you drive? :ROFLMAO: But seriously, I'd like more range as well.

We got a Bronco Sport earlier this year which isn't the same animal but it does have GOAT modes. From our experience the ECO mode doesn't yield much better MPG. It definitely keeps the RPMs down and gives it less throttle response. We live out in the middle of nowhere with very little city driving so my experience may be skewed. With the cruise set on 75 we are dead on 28MPG whether in Sport or Eco mode.
