The average national gas price was $3.50 on January 27, up more than ten cents over the prior week and forty cents over the end of December.

Steadily decreasing gas prices this fall boosted some segments of the used car market.

We’ve seen a great deal of rising demand for larger vehicles in the past two months after several months of abysmal large truck and SUV sales.

That may no longer be the case as gas prices are climbing again.

The average national gas price hovered around $3.50 on January 27, up more than ten cents over the prior week and forty cents compared to the end of December.

Here’s what AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said:

“The recent rising temperatures led to rising pump prices. And with the cost of oil hitting $80 a barrel, there is a lot of upward pressure on gas prices at the moment.”

If this trend continues, we may see lower interest in larger trucks and SUVs, which means you’ll probably make less when you sell.

And gas prices will only go up as people begin to travel in the spring. So if you’re considering selling a gas guzzler, this may be the time to do it.

No pressure to sell at all. Just here to give any potential sellers a heads-up when their vehicles might be increasing or decreasing in resale value.

Kinda silly to be basing your car-buying and -selling on what gas prices are doing this week (or any particular week)…

True, gas prices are always up and down. Tracking it can be useful when it comes to several financial decisions though. As for early February, there seems to be an increase we need to prepare for.

Understandable. This is more of a heads-up to anyone that might have been on the fence. Soon prices will increase and the value of a larger SUV or truck might decrease. So if someone were debating if they should sell now or later, the impact of gasoline prices on the value of their car might be something to look at.

My Gen 1 Lightning got 10mpg or 12mpg if I drove it in eco mode style. 17mpg sounds great except the Lightning had twice the capacity of the 2 door. Net net, it will be about the same.

Gasoline prices always start rising in February. The primary driver of this is refiners lowering inventory stocks of winter blend gasolines to make summer blend products. This trickles through pipelines, fuel terminals and finally your local retailer. Summer blend products are also more costly to refine than winter products
