First off, I didn't give you consent to use my photo

First accessory is front plate relocate. After that I want to do some aftermarket lighting, do a little bit of overlander type mods, and lastly maybe slight lift and go 37" tires. I do plan along the way to look at upgrading components that we might learn to be "weak points".

I am a newbie, but I love your suggestions about the experience aspect of it all. "Stuff" is great, but the memories you get are priceless. The "stuff" is just a means to an end. Additionally, I have been a lifelong camper, hiker and totally agree with you on all points about being prepared. Yes, I was a Boy Scout for years. No, I wasn't... you know, thankfully. I am new to off-roading, but do so much in the outdoors that it is time I add it to my resume and my lifestyle. I can't wait to join the community of the more experienced bunch of you all here. I am sure I will make an a** of myself at some point with people shaking their heads on the trail. But, you gotta learn somehow, right? I will just try to avoid being a "SPORT" - Stupid, Poor, Old, Rescued, Turd
Nothing wrong with being new to wheeling, don't pay any attention to jokes or ridicule. Like you said, we all start somewhere. For the most part, as long as you have recovery gear and some tools (cheep tools in case you drop something in mud, river, ditch, cliff), so no need to go after it. Leave the Craftsman and Snap On shit for the house. Guys tend to be much more helpful for the guys who have gear, but need someone to use it or show them how. I don't know anyone who has a problem helping guys who are prepared. I'm no mechanic, but enough of them wheel where they'll jump right in.

You're getting a great rig at a good time, won't take long before you get the hang of things. You already get out, so now you'll have a vehicle you can have fun in too.

There is a lot of crap to buy, but getting it before you absolutely need it makes things cheaper and you can budget.

Biggest thing to know is that you don't go wheeling alone, find a group, even online or right here for guys in your area. Handheld radios to communicate are a cheap good start; upgrade later.

You'll be making memories out there and grinning in no time!

Goddamn man, that's a serious list; where will you sit? Ha ha!:ROFLMAO:.

I remember you doing the gear (still think you're LLOD!), but tell me if I'm crazy. For years, I've camped in a 4 person tent and used a Colman blow up queen sized mattress instead of a sleeping bag, an outdoor blanket, an electric blanket and a camp pillow.

I've camped as far north as Kentucky in the 20s and was fine, although it wasn't supposed to get that cold that night, but in the hills..... Bourbon kept me warm too.

Should I finally pick up a sleeping bag before wheeling it out to Colorado in an overlanding trip?

My newest tent is a Gazelle Overland Edition which I'm really liking for size and ease. Downside, it's heavy as hell and big (hub tent)

I’m interested in the Element extinguishers. Never handled /used one like this but they sure look slick.
https://elementfire.com/
That is very interesting. Cheap too (comparatively speaking at least). If that's similar to my HR3 where the stuff just evaporates and you're not left with a giant expensive mess to clean up, I'd definitely get that for the Bronco.

Will have to do some research and make sure it's car friendly... that may be the way to go.

Ha ha ha, I remember your comment about LLOD. Nope, I’m still not him. My name is Nels, I run the product development team for a camping & backpacking brand called Kelty. We make high quality but affordable gear.

If you camp frequently a good down sleeping bag is a worthy investment that will last a lifetime. SP21 Kelty product should be arriving soon, give it a month or so and then go look for the new Cosmic Down 550 bags. It’s the #1 best selling down bag in the USA for the past several years. Summer trips in the CO highlands I’d recommend a good 20° bag.

I’m familiar with the Gazelle tents, hunting blind style hub tents. There very cool but you are correct, they’re bulky & heavy. Despite my access to high end gear I prefer simple x-tent style tents with two poles. Easy to set up, lightweight, compact. Lots of good choices out there. I like the Grand Mesa. Besides I never spend any time in my tent unless sleeping so a small tent is best. For hanging out look up “roadhouse tarp” from a brand called Slumberjack.

“As far north as Kentucky” ha! I grew up in MN. I don’t even consider Colorado to be cold and it was -12° last night. 😎

I’d recommend a good self inflating camping mattress over a air bed. Your sleeping mat is the #1 tool to stay warm, and I’ll tell you point blank - air beds are cold. Look for a pad called the “waypoint” arriving this spring. 3” thick. 👍

Feel free to DM me about camping gear anythime I’ll steer you straight.

PEACE

Great list! Makes everyone think how much we really need, in addition to the Bronco.

Sad part is this is my attempt to make a smaller / lighter kit with less stuff. I know.... I have a problem. 🤪
