The rock sliders are body mounted and, yes, they function as a real step. Body mount seems very sturdy. They are the only way my short wife can get into my Bronco. I went with the version with the top plates when they were on sale around that Thanksgiving time, I think. Love them!

I posted picks of my installation in the following thread and you can search page after page there with detailed photos of the installation many pictures of them on 2 and 4 doors. https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/rock-sliders-by-goat-fabrication.29059/post-1699265

I can see your frame on your photo's and don't see anything tying the sliders into the frame. It looks like they use the same body mount holes that the OEM rails use.
Frame mounted sliders for reference.

Correct. My bad. I just looked back at my photos and confirmed that as well. Regardless, as for using them as a step, they don't flex at all when stepped on.....rock solid. They also mount better than the factory rock rails and have substantial structure such that I feel they would perform as true rock rails much better than the stock units would.

Another point is they work really well at protecting from door dings in parking lots. Just the other day I was in my Bronco on a phone call when someone pulled into the space next to me and let his door swing right into it......it hit the Goat sliders before it hit my door.

I didn’t see any need for a pinch weld cover, these are pretty tight 👍

I love the look of these sliders, but don’t love the look of the top plate.

I want good looking sliders, and my wife wants a step. How do the plateless tube sliders work as a step? Any foot slippage while getting in/out?

Sorry we didnt see this earlier.

We have made the version without the top plate for years for the Jeep community. No problems at all as a step. They have a textured black powder coat. Almost like a rough sandpaper or grip tape feel.
