As someone new to this I find myself using Google often to see what an acronym you guys use means. I search things like the difference between 4a and 4h, etc.

I searched on here and online but cannot find a good "one stop shop" resource.

Once I get the Bronco my plan is to join a local club with my dad to learn real life but it'd be nice to go in with full (at least as close to) knowledge on terminology and vehicle functions that I'm simply ignorant to.

Any recommendations? If it's on here already I'll thread delete once linked. I don't seem to have great luck with the search function.

You aren't going to find a one stop shop for this information, there is a vast number of subcategories that make that difficult. Experience is number 1, but you are on the right track with a local club.

Offroad Ethics are always overlooked and I would rather see someone with knowledge here than knowing what a TTB front axle is. Check out https://treadlightly.org/ on that front they have great resources.

I am pretty sure Ford will have a free 1-day school for off-roading your Bronco using their Broncos. You just have to get to the location. 1 ticket per owner tied to your VIN. No guest are allowed.

Ford does this for most of their cars >> Raptors, Focus RS, GT350, etc.

So go beat on their Broncos.

In typical me fashion, when I want to get into a hobby, instead of dipping my toe a bit to start I just go balls out.

Whoa. That's pretty damn cool. I would not even have thought about something like that being a thing.

Thanks!

best advice is what @IDyeti and others have said.
You learn by experience mainly, and I'm still learning each time.
These guys going on these challenging MOAB trips fully outfitted with long travel suspensions is beyond my expertise and experience and I love seeing the videos they post.
Most important is spending that time and having those memories with your dad.
And as a Dad I can tell you it is the most important thing to him as well.
In my travels I have found it is best to:
- get acquainted with your vehicle and comfortable with it. This way you know your limits and its limits and aren't fumbling around too much trying to find modes/buttons when you need them.
-pack as lightly as you can but have some basic essentials such as high protein bars, a reserve of sugary stuff if you have sugar issues, plenty of water, working flashlights, a change of dry socks, battery packs or solar chargers for your devices, extra paracord, a camp hatchet, waterproof matches, a few cheap ponchos, First aid kit, a sharp pocketknife, and some water filtration straws..
-off-road essentials are as hardcore as you want to get but some good basic stuff is a good shovel, a bottle jack, a recovery rope or sling, and some traction boards (Amazon has good ones far cheaper than TraxMax to get you going), a set of shackles, a fire extinguisher, and I always take a compass (learn how to use it if you don't know).
Chances are you won't need any of it.
But if you do need it and don't have it...that's a whole different ball game.
I put all my carry-on stuff in a small waterproof bag and bungee it in.
Good luck, and have fun with your dad.

This guy does more off-roading and overlanding in a Subaru than the rest of the "all show, no go" guys on the Internet combined. He has some simple ideas that work well; although you won't see all the $$$$ items you do on sponsored sites.

I second taking advantage of the Off Rodeo that Ford is giving us all access to. They're billing it as appropriate for novices to experts

One correction to @Raptor911 The Off Rodeo website indicates that guests are allowed for a nominal fee. So get yourself and your dad signed up, pick a location and have a blast.
