Heading to off roadeo next month. What is the proper Gopro mount to mount directly to the dash to document my experience?

I saw a picture somewhere that looked like they had a pedestal type gopro mount screwed directly into where the mythical BYOD rail screws to the dash

1/4-20 is the standard used in the camera world. it would be nice if a new owner could confirm this. I am off to the rodeo the last week of July and plan to gopro as well.

I'd start with something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Fotasy-Threa...+male+tripod&qid=1625498214&sr=8-3&th=1&psc=1

Now adaptor to gopro style mount:

https://www.amazon.com/Suptig-Adapt...=1&keywords=gopro+mount&qid=1625498857&sr=8-8

At this point you have many options but a swivel mount will be best because you will have no other control over pointing it straight forward:

https://www.amazon.com/Kolasels-Bal...1&keywords=gopro+swivel&qid=1625499756&sr=8-4

I've never used any of the products I linked. Those are examples. Also can someone 100% percent confirm the 1/4-20 thread?

Thank you! With my accessory pack, I may be almost set up. For vehicle mount, I have always used a four suction cup mount, to hood mount, (sports cars) The elements make me prefer inside for this application.

Thank you! Hopefully someone will confirm. I just hillbilly engineered a dual male end 1/4-20 adapter to use with a standard mount. If that is correct, I am good to go.

Somewhat related question: I recently started researching the whole GoPro/Dash Cam thing And it sounds like trying to use a GoPro as a dash cam doesn't work very well. Things like sensitivity to heat, recording length (looping).... I don't know, just some random reasons.

Sounds like you guys have gone the GoPro route... How is it compared to a legit dash cam?
