I feel like we've had so many disaster stories of dealers jamming people on delivery that I would post my experience much to the opposite. I moved about 2 years ago into my fiance's home on the other side of NY's Hudson River, totally foreign geography to me despite being a 20 minute drive from the town I lived in for the better part of 22 years. I've not bought a Ford product since owning an Escort GT in 1986 and thus had no affiliation with any dealer.
I reserved my car online with Ford on day 2 of reservations as I was between cars during the pandemic and thought this would be fun. I did have a Jeep JK that was an extra car for our Vermont house that I was driving at the time. Shortly after the reservation process, I spoke with a rep at Schultz Ford which is 3 miles from our house. Schultz is a local, family owned dealership with 2 locations in the lower Hudson Valley of NY.
Ordering was smooth. Like most dealers, Schultz was in the dark on many things I learned here on the forum, but it wasn't there doing. I was working with the Sales Manager directly, Marty Picinic, an affable guy who really didn't waste time or BS me about anything. While I did push for a discount off of MSRP, Marty told me in an email - You will pay MSRP as that's the deal they were doing for everyone.
In August when I learned the fastest way into the car was by switching from a 2DrHT to a 4DrST, Marty accommodated me promptly and within 3 days we had our first build date!
Over time, I came to realize the blessing behind the MSRP statement. Once the car was in final delivery off the Train, Marty knew exactly where it was, when it was to be delivered and got it in my hands with hours to spare before the thanksgiving holiday. True to his word, I paid MSRP. No games at delivery time, no time to harass me with upsells on delivery. I did finance through the dealer as they got me a competitive rate, and this too was completely painless. They also got me registered out of state via their registration service with no issues.
The entire process was textbook in terms of clean, honest dealing the way it used to be. I'd love to get my wife into a MachE, but she's not there yet, I wish the Schultz family had more brands to sell!
if anyone lives in the Hudson Valley/ Westchester County /Northern NJ area, I highly recommend looking up Marty @ Schultz Ford.
I sorta think we should have a Bronco6G preferred dealer badge that we could award these dealers that are known to be doing the right thing by customers the way Schultz has while we have seen there are many that are not. This is a business that deserves our business as they do things right.
