Saw the laser spot lights on your site. Look really cool but why is the Lumen number so low compared to regular LEDs?

Great question. The Laser technology operates completely differently from a traditional LED. Short answer - technology takes time. Similar to LEDs in the early stages, the output, color temperatures and other elements of performance will improve over the years.

Attaching a graphic that shows how these operate, using micro filaments that activate the phosphor from the front, rather than how a traditional LED operates, which activates from behind the phosophor.

Lots more to it, but hopefully this helps.

Very cool. So if I want the brightest spot light I should stick to LED then? Thanks for the info!

The Laser is going to reach much farther than an LED due to various elements combining to provide a very tight spot pattern. That said, we do not recommend implementing laser lighting until you have more or less maxed out the distance our distance oriented LED product (Racer Edition) provide - or at least have enough supporting light in all of the other forward lighting zones.

LEDs provide a great amount of spill light (we call it free light) which fills out your pattern. On the other hand, the laser culminates all the light into a 5-degree spot. Imagine a pitch black trail, with a very focused light beam that moves with the vehicle through the whoops and dips. The result is a "bouncing ball" effect where the spot is bouncing around an otherwise dark field of view.

Make a light as bright as the sun and you got a deal.
Check out our XL80s. We make "brighter" lights (more LEDS, and as such, more power draw), but the XL80 is a no frills powerhouse. A pair of those on the front of your vehicle is enough to put a smile on most people's faces.

I'm genuinely interested in the Laser Light. The information I don't see on your website which I was looking for was:

  • Does this light pose any danger to the human eye the way that an unfiltered laser does? (seems generic, but knowing potential injury risks is important)

  • Multiple times does it reference being a greater distance than LED's. What distance are we talking about here while keeping the 1.5" beam? 600'? a mile?

Dear Baja Designs

Please be working on a super cool stealth light bar so it's ready when the New Bronco comes out.

Something like this would be GREAT! on the inside.

Hey all,

Some of the other members in the lighting subforum noticed that we released our newsletter and new Bronco kits earlier this week.

If you want to see this first wave of Bronco kits, just follow this link. Let me know if you have any questions!
