Has anyone found a good grounding location for an amp at the rear seats? I see a lot of bolts that are fully painted, no raw metal.

We were either going to drill into the frame or run it to the battery. The whole truck is aluminum with zinc coated bolts.

We went to the battery.

There are no grounds near the rear seats. You either have to go up front, go to the back, or make your own ground.

Up front there are two grounds that are relatively easy to get to by the kick-panel speakers. And in the cargo area there is at least one ground on each side behind the trim panels.

Use some sandpaper or a wire brush and make your own ground? Pick an area that isn’t likely to be exposed to moisture and/or coat it with dielectric/silicone sealant following install

I used the factory ground near the factory subwoofer. Pop the passenger rear panel out and it’s a quick install.

This is where I am currently grounded. I relocated the amp and now having a hard time concealing the ground wire.

Question for anyone knowledgeable on this as I wonder if it’s grounding related

when it gets cold outside, as in below 32F, my Kicker Hideaway doesn’t function normally, certain low frequencies it just cuts out on unless I have the volume cranked up (I’ve found that number to be around 12).

A buddy and I drilled into a spot in the cargo area, underneath the panel that bridges the gap between rear seats and cargo tray, and grounded there

anyone have any thoughts?

Without knowing too many details about the sub and setup, I’ll say this.

The subwoofer VC and Suspension get harder as it gets colder. It takes more power to drive a cold sub than a warm sub - efficiencies being what they are.

Either the amp is protecting, or the sub can’t play in the frequencies requested due to the lack of available excursion while cold.

of course, it simply could be a bad connection and thermal expansion/contraction might also be a factor

You could rule out wiring issues by conducting a voltage drop test on the sub's power and ground wires. This video explains how to do it.

This test could help you identify poor connections, inadequate wiring, or grounding issues by measuring loss of voltage between different points of the circuit. A drop of at least 0.5V would indicate that something is wrong.
