I drove by Dick Dean VW in Kirkwood Mo. today. Saw a Ford Bronco out of the corner of my eye. They are THE sleaziest dealer I have ever encountered (just my subjective opinion there). I won't go into details about it. I have never bought a car from them and never would but I have talked to them about cars I was interested in. Anyway, below is a link. I don't know what trim it is but it shows a base on their website and shows the mpg of a base base I believe. Asking $62,000 with 480 miles on it. I'm not making any judgements about this particular sale since I don't have the facts. I'm just saying as strange as this seems, I was not surprised one bit, lol.

So they reserved a Bronco so they could turn around and sell it for a profit? Interesting.

I don't think that decoder is working. I popped in a badland VIN (straight off a window sticker), and it's telling me base 4 door advanced 4x4

I vowed never to buy from them just because of their ridiculous commercials over the years.

VIN number decoders can't tell you the trim level. You'd have to look up the entire VIN number in Ford's database.

Take this VIN: 1FMEE5DP2MLA61815

It's for a Wildtrak 4-door.
  • 1FM = Ford Motor Company
  • E = Multipurpose vehicle, hydraulic brakes, GVWR between 6001 & 7000 lbs, seat belts with driver/passenger/2nd row front & side airbags
  • E5D = Bronco, 4-door, Advanced 4x4
  • P = Ford 2.7L Ecoboost
  • 2 = (check digit, used to quickly tell if VIN is invalid)
  • M = model year 2021
  • L = Michigan Assembly Plant
  • A61915 = unique identifier (basically a serial number)
Nothing in there signifies that it is a Wildtrak trim. You wouldn't know it was Wildtrak unless you looked up the unique identifier.

For the VIN 1FMDE5BH6MLA73800 that @Stitches1974 posted...
  • 1FM = Ford Motor Company
  • D = Multipurpose vehicle, hydraulic brakes, GVWR between 5001 & 6000 lbs, seat belts with driver/passenger/2nd row front & side airbags
  • E5B = Bronco, 4-door, Base 4x4
  • H = Ford 2.3L Ecoboost
  • 6 = check digit
  • M = model year 2021
  • L = Michigan Assembly Plant
  • A73800 = unique identifier
So all we can really tell is that it is not a Badlands or Wildtrak. Badlands comes with the Advanced 4x4 standard, and Wildtrak comes with the 2.7L standard. So we can rule those out with process of elimination... beyond that, we have no idea.

If you've been paying any attention to the auto industry over the last decade, you may know VW is contracting Ford to develop the next revision of their Amarok pickup/ute. By extension/deduction, VW could possibly get their own version of the Bronco eventually, if only for developing markets... So this isn't as odd as it first seems.

Word. Trying to sell it to Carvana or vroom limits you to the following trims:

At least it will be easier for Dick to sell a Bronco than one of those boring VW Tiguan or Atlas

VW needs to build an updated Type 181 "Thing" and Vanagon. And forget the EV B.S.

Yeah, if you look at the VIN database there is only 6 “trim”/model levels. And they don’t match Ford’s trim levels that they advertise to the public.

Carvana knows by process of elimination (using the VIN) that it cannot be Wildtrak of Badlands, so only shows you the trim levels it can be.

It’s characters 5, 6, & 7 on the VIN:
  • E5A - 2 door standard 4x4
  • E5B - 4 door standard 4x4
  • E5C - 2 door advanced 4x4
  • E5D - 4 door advanced 4x4
  • E5E - 2 door First Edition
  • E5F - 4 door First Edition

Um, the CarFax shows it going through an auto auction. But, it's a great deal at 62K. :)
