Heavy Rain Warning Messages

Was driving home this evening in a really crazy thunderstorm. Torrential rain, 60-80mph winds, VERY limited visibility, and occasional small hail. Driving 25 on a freeway marked at 75 in heavy traffic when I got a series of warning messages. Front camera obstructed, cross traffic warning disabled, lane keeping disabled, 360 camera disabled, and a couple of others I can't immediately recall.

I was more than a bit concerned that the vehicle was about to shut itself down, but it did not. Once I got out of the storm everything appears to be working normally again, though. I assume this is normal and expected behavior, but it did give me a bit of a fright at the time.

I don't remember the exact phrasing, but I have received a "road conditions suck, WTF are you doing out here, moron" message when the temps dip below freezing.

I just kick it and tell it to STFU and drive. It hasn't shut down, yet.

Yeah, it's basically responding to all the sensors being blocked by the torrential rain (or snow), etc.

All good. It's just telling you it's a "dumb car" now, so pay attention, you're on your own.

I had something similar happen when I was driving through heavy snow in March. I cleared up as we drove down elevation and out of the weather. I had the Ford dealership look at the codes, and they told me that the camera in the windshield had been reporting as obstructed, so that turned off some of the systems temporarily.

No. No problems. I'm an old guy. Drive for many years without electronics. I just started to think of all the threads that reported multiple warnings and then the truck either shut down or went into limp mode.

Thankfully, the Bronco was only behaving normally. I'm mid 60s, so have driven most of my life without electronic aids. By the way, who is / was Alex Hannold?

Not seen this on my Bronco, but on my daughter's Subaru, it pops up when conditions are as you describe. It's basically telling you, "i'm out ahead of my ski's... you're on your own" as you experienced, as soon as the weather improves it clears and operates normally. Assuming it's just the camera and sensors inability to "see" through the inclement weather. From what I heard about TX weather yesterday, seems it had good reason the cry uncle. Those were some hellacious storms!

It's happened to me in dense fog, and driving directly into the sun as well. Not a big deal.

The real annoying part for me is it decides to tell me multiple times....even after I have said Ok.

The heavy rain obstructs the radar sensor behind the bumper and the sonar sensors in both bumpers. It can also obstruct the forward facing camera at the top of the windshield. The warnings should go away after the rain subsides, or possibly after a key cycle.

I’ve been in all kinds of crazy weather and never seen this with the exception of snow/ice and the front camera warning.
Never had anything pop up in a good thunderstorm.

I have experienced it on a couple of occasions, it takes a downpour that forces you to slow down to 30 to 40 MPH and driving in traffic. It isn’t actually water buildup on the sensors themselves, but just too much water in the air for them to see through it. It’s the same affect that heavy storms have on satellite communications.
