Oh, I see. I'm not going to get into your business but I'm glad y'all are making memories traveling with them. Some of my best childhood memories are visiting Yosemite, Glacier National, Grand Canyon, and digging for dinosaurs in Montana.
All about making sure my kids get to see more than I did when I was growing up. As a kid my parents took us to a new state/area every year to see something different. That's what our Durango does for us...but this is a rig I plan to keep for a long time, will I keep it long enough to really go on weeks long trips without needing someone to watch the kids (i.e.-they are off to college) I don't know the answer that, but I really do want to make sure that I spend my money in the right places. I enjoy packing efficiently and multi-purposing items and generally problem solving with the tools or items I have. Sounds like @aplm7 and I would get along pretty well!

Also, like I mentioned earlier, I'm excited about making memories in the Bronco with my kids. The funny thing is that my parents never had "cool" cars/trucks, but my dad would always talk about cars/trucks he would like to have.

This right here ! Thanks for googling it for me! haha This calms my worries, seems like every picture of a 2door FCA vehicle looks like it's about to tip over and generally looks undersized. What color is this in the B&P

Well, they were probably not able to have cool cars because they were being good parents and putting time, effort, and money into you and the family's future, presumably.

And always carry a 20 gauge and a .22 rifle. Lots of good food to be had from that. If you're worried about Bears and such, Ya just might want a little more lead.

2dr should be plenty. In all honesty, you don't need all the gear that the guys at Trail Recon take on their trips. That's excessive.

Like others have said, pull the rear seats and make something to level the floor so you can get a Fridge/Freezer in the back. That's what I'm going to do.

I just want to say i am also between 2 + 4 dr and prob opting for 2 dr. I can get an external cargo setup for roof and rear that gives me much more room than the difference. Pack light and keep heavy stuff in the center of the vehicle best you can you should be good. 2 door just looks so good i can't deny it, i know its not practical but i don't really care if i can augment it with roof and rear storage. No RTT either, just pack something light so its not heavy and you have the extra space to use for fluids or whatever you want. That's kinda my rough plan as of now.

Not to mention do your research. You don't have to buy a $1000 fridge either. You can get by with a lot less and there are lots of brands out there with good reviews. And there are also coolers and ice. You can do a lot out there with very little. Just start small and learn along the way. Don't start with a 30day off-grid trip unless you're super adventurous.

The general consensus but not completely agreed-upon definition of Overlanding is “long-term, self-reliant vehicle-based travel”. You could do that in a Toyota Corolla, or for this crowd a Ford escort.
My definition is to drive my truck somewhere cool and can camp, cook something tasty, and have a few cold beers preferably with some water that I can fish in.
So my kit includes a fridge, a decent kitchen set up, a lot of storage for fishing gear and a go fast camper for setting up camp fast.
I have a drawer system similar to goose gear that I built to keep everything organized. My backseats are occupied by kiddos, or if solo coolers.
If I was to build my “overlanding” rig over again that’s right for me, it would be a full-size truck with a four wheel camper on a flatbed.
My Bronco will be a four door light weight Off-roader with a GFC superlite that I can through on it when i want to trip it.
From your description, you will be 100% fine in a two door. My good friend overlanded Asia for a month on a rented scooter. If you plan To start popping out kids soon, you might want to consider a four door but not
necessary.
Good luck!

While a fridge might be the right fit for some , I really don't need it. If I was a better cook maybe. If you haven't tasted these meals you need to order some right now and just pour in hot water, wait 10 mins. These rival the taste of anything I could cook by far

A two door is fine. Overlanding is just fancy car camping. You don’t need a rooftop tent And all that extra Stuff. We have an MSR tent that sets up and comes down faster than an RTT. And there’s no probability of falling six feet if you have to get up in the night. ?

the most underrated camping item is a cutting board and good knife.
Which MSR tent did you get? Thinking of doing this too and it would double as a backpacking tent, free up the roof, and if a group decides to go overnight hiking from base camp I could go with them

I'm in the same boat, want to 2-dr overland, camp... I also youtubed a bunch of '2-door overlanding), there's some out there. My plan is to remove at least one rear seat, an RTT, start with the important stuff like recovery, tools, first aid, clothes, food/kitchen. Then pack in more, may remove both rear seats. We'll see. But it can be done in a 2-door, I'm gonna make it work.
Same. The seat(s) coming out.

I'll butt in and say my that I use MSR tents. I use a Hubba and a Hubba Hubba for backpacking. 100s of nights in each and have been solid. I broke a pole on my Hubba over 10 years ago now. Sleeved it and has been solid since.

I picked up an MSR Remote as well. A pretty serious bit of gear but I don't use it as much. Might become a Bronco tent.

My wife hates ground camping. I am going to 100% get one of those fancy trailers you see overlanders use because it has all the creature comforts she will enjoy. A overlanding tent on top of the 2-door Bronco. That's not a ton of real-estate. I know some have leg braces to extend further out but ehhh just not my thing. To each their own.

I have no experience, but based on the amount of lumber I haul in my focus, if you want the 2 door bad enough, you will make it work. I was looking to get into camping as well on some trails in northern michigan/UP and will be getting the 2 door. The only "fancy" thing i want when camping is one of those portable showers, and that can all go on a roof rack.
