Hello!

I know this has been beat to death, but I can’t find an answer to my specific question.

I have a 2024 Outer Banks (non-sas) and would like change the tires and wheels.

My Bronco has the 2.7 with a 4.7 rear.

I’m considering the wheels in the photo below with 275/70R17 tires (undecided on brand) possibly KO2/3s.

I’m not sure what the small gain in width of the tires and an 8” vs. 7.5” wheel with the same +55 offset would do for poke or rubbing.

I’d like the tires to be about even with the stock painted flares.

I’m still considering leveling it too.

any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance!

https://www.willtheyfit.com/ or any other wheel calculator is a good start, you can input tire/wheel/offset and it will give you the differences.

Not sure how much it matters with the tire sizes you’re considering but if I recall correctly you can’t have the 4.7 rear on a non-SAS OBX. You sure that’s what you have? If so, how did you get that?

Thanks for the replies. I guess I understand the 275/70 will fit on stock wheels with no issues. I think I want to make sure that going with a wider wheel at the same offset won’t cause any problems.

That window sticker shows 4.27 gearing, not 4.7

My non-SAS Badlands has 17x8 wheels with +55 offset and 285/70/17 BFG KO2’s. My fender flares aren’t painted but the same width as yours.

Pics below should give a fairly decent representation.

The 275/70’s are about 0.40” narrower. Half that width would get eaten up on the inside and the other half on the outside meaning your edge of tire would be about 0.20” (almost 1/4”) less than mine from the outside fender flare.

if you like the style of my wheels, you can probably find some takeoffs local to you for the $1,000 range with BFG KO2’s attached. Not bad for 5 wheels and tires. The 285’s are a little taller too, about 32.8” as opposed to 32.15”. FYI, I am upgrading soon and interested in selling mine (no pressure).

A few things to be cognizant about:

1. Larger diameter takes more effort to get moving. Using the same gear size on a larger diameter wheel/tire combo effectively reduces your leverage to some degree.

2. More weight difference between stock and modified setup worsens the effects talked about above.

3. As tire size goes up, revs per mile come down. Your speedo will be off a little.

4. General physics apply. More weight and rolling resistance to get moving equals worse gas mileage to some degree.

None of the above means it’s a bad idea or you shouldn’t proceed. Nor does it mean you need a gear change, etc, etc. It does mean you making changes that have compounding effects.

Like anything, how far you go determines what actions (if any) are needed to counter balance the negative effects.

Thank you, No Limits!

I appreciate your time and input. It’s very helpful and I have considered adding Badlands take offs, but I’d want to add a Badlands grill. Lol.
mine is shadow black and it’s a nice combo.

OP: I really like those wheels you have picked out. I have seen those on the Ford Performance website. As others said, up to 285/70r17 will fit easy. I say go for it, it will look great !

I just mounted 285/70/17‘s on the same wheels you show. I wanted to keep my original 7.5 wide black steelies but it was rubbing on the stay bar. The 8 inch width gives an extra 6mm clearance (poke) on the +55 offset and is just enough to clear a 285 width. You’ll be fine with a 275 width. Here’s a pic of mine with a 2 inch FP lift.

I ordered the wheels through Stage 3 Motorsport and the price was $1200 delivered to my home. It wasn’t in their online catalog, I called and they submitted a special order at a discounted price. Great prices and service!

You’re welcome, glad it helped. Wheels are simple but can be confusing as there is a lot of give and take.

Here is some more info that I didn’t include earlier. When talking offset, you have to adjust for wheel width. To give an example, your stock 7.5” wheels have +55 offset. Sasquatch wheels are 8.5” and have +30 offset.

Without consideration of the wheel width variance, you may just assume the SAS wheels stick out 1” further (25.4mm = 1” and 55-30mm = 25mm).

However, the SAS wheels being 1” wider has to be considered. Split in half that is 0.5” x 25.4 = 12.7mm, or 13mm rounded. So yes, the SAS wheel has less positive offset but when *width is considered* a 7.5” wide wheel with +55 offset is actually more comparable to a 8.5” wheel with +42 offset.

Again, the SAS wheels are +30 so they are still going to poke more but only 12mm more as opposed to the initial 25mm variance you get when ignoring wheel widths.

Below is a chart showing these relationships.

Another popular wheel is the RTR Tech 6 and also Evo. Both are 17x9 and offered in 0 and +30 offset. The 9” wide +30 variant is *very close* to the 7.5” width at +55mm, approx 6mm of variance (hair less than a 1/4”).

I see you are in Maryland. You can have my Badlands takeoffs for the low price of a case of beer. You pick up in Easton, MD.

I’m tired of the them being in my shed.
