I gotta question for ya. Have your running boards been doing a good job protecting your doors from kicked up rocks?

Asking for a friend who maybe wants running boards for his BL…

I was actually thinking that the running boards must be blocking some of the rocks and gravel but I still find a fair share of rocks and gravel sitting on top of the running boards. I'm still going to add splash guards.

Are there any guards yet that actually fit the stock running boards without modifications?

Yes they have and I added the cheap ford running boards which have made it even better. Also the trail armor makes a huge difference too.

Running boards will help, but mud flaps are the only way to significantly stop the rocks from hitting the body.

No, you either have to modify the splash guards or the running boards.

I put universal flaps on day 2 and very happy I did. Between them and the boards no rock chips and there's plenty of gravel spread on the roads right now.

Did you have to modify the fronts to allow for the Tube Step intrusion?

I imagine they’re giving me an extra layer of protection. The thing I’m most enjoying about the running boards, though, is how much they’re saving the outside edge of my driver’s side seat from getting smashed down. Literally, one of the things I hate the most is how that edge gets smashed down in almost every vehicle I’ve owned, from me sliding my fat 🍑 out the door. With the OBX, my standard vehicular exit procedure is: right hand grabs the frame over the door, and left foot goes out on the running board as I hoist myself up and out, thus keeping those choice leather seats in symmetrical condition. 😁😁😁
