Anyone else out there make a dolly to move your loose top around?

I didn't want to spend a ton on one of the metal stands... so, I made this one out of the free off-cuts at Lowe's (3/4" plywood) and some old casters. It let's me move the top around the garage easily by myself.

I had it hanging on the wall to store it, and it looked unfinished. My wife said it looked like a big picture frame and painted it like this for me 🙂.

Anyway, just wondering what others have come up with, in case I need to borrow some ideas.

That looks really neat.

Part of me wants to remove my trailrax so that I can remove my top from time to time. Camping season starts in three weeks though, so it would go right back on.

Wow - you guys are pretty enterprising. I just bought 2 dollies from Harbor Freight and rested 1/2 the top on each. EZPZ

The Wrangler versions of this store the top vertically which occupies significantly less space. I wonder if the Ford papier mache is up to the task.

I have a 2 door TJ and 4 door JK Wrangler and always store the hard tops vertically during the summer but, I would NEVER trust the Bronco top in that orientation. In fact, I was concerned about putting the middle section on top of the rear clam shell since the center deflected under its weight!

My thoughts as well... I'm really only comfortable storing it the way it sits on the vehicle.

Same concern for me, and as another person said, I barely have enough floor space for the doors, let alone the top which is why I wanted the top to rest on something even while hoisted.

Either way, these floor carts are cool and fun projects that I'm glad people are making.

Does something like this warp the top? I realize they tend to be overpriced

I use a small yard cart , the type you pull behind a lawn tractor.
The nice big wheels allow me to EASILY roll the cart & top to the back yard if I'm keeping it off for any amount of time.
I'll have to dig up some pics.
You have to put the rear glass over the tongue, otherwise the glass weight will make it "self dump".
Ask me how I know, lol.
