My wife used my Bronco today to take our dog to the vet. When I got in it after she came home, I noticed an unusual sensation while reversing. I ignored it and went on my way. Later, when I was backing up out of a parking space, it again felt weird. It was then that I noticed the car was in 4H. Turns out my 16 LB dog stepped on the 4H button when she jumped into the front seat from the back seat. My wife never noticed it. So, my question is, has anyone else had this happen? Any thoughts on how to protect the drive mode selector from an innocent dog just trying to get into the front seat?
Problem solved.

Too much preaching. I see my wife accidentally hitting this as it's in the same position as the gear selector on her cherokee. Honest mistake thing. Therefore, I like the idea of a 3D printed cage. I have a few, maybe I'll draw one up and test it. Stay tuned, it will take a me a couple weeks as I'll be out of town for a bit.
Preaching?? Nah....A little poking fun at a decidedly First World Problem...Yep!

I viewed this law to be excessive and oppressive when NJ instituted it, but I always used a travel kennel or harness (just as I always wore Arai motorcycle helmets but supported those who wanted helmet laws repealed).

In retrospect, and becoming older and wiser, the state was simply protecting me from crazy cat ladies who drive wearing their calico like a hat.

>>The driver of a passenger automobile shall secure or cause to be secured in an appropriately sized, properly adjusted, and fastened seat belt restraint system, any non-crated domestic dog or cat that is being transported in the vehicle.<<
A3221 - NJ Legislature

Unfortunately this does not stop ferret owners from allowing their rodentia to assist in makeup application while driving, texting, and enjoying a half-calf double soy, almond spritz pumpkin latte with sprinkles on their way to the local cannabis dispensary (at 45mph in the fast lane of an 8 lane 65mph Interstate).

This is 100 percent a training issue.

I trained my dog to stay in the back.

Your dog jumping in the front seats is a dominance thing, dont be a beta, train your dog that you are boss.
This right here.

I look forward to your proposed solution!

I have some important questions about this product:

1) Is it made in China? If so, is there an American made version, preferably sewn together by the Amish?

2) Is their a version with a bronco on it, or a Sasquatch, or at least an American flag?

3) Does it come with a grab handle mounting system?

4) Which Aux switch should I hook it up to?

5) Is it Unisex??

Wow, so much judgement here and non sought out advice.

In my case, my dog does this only when parked/stopped. I train the hell out of him, but he's far from perfect and eliminating something as minor as coming close to me in the front just isn't a priority nor something I want to use negative reinforcement for.

I get it you're better than me and do is your dog...😡

Just like parents don't typically take unsolicited advice on raising nor disciplining their kids, I suggest to not do the same to other dog owners.
Gotta love it when it's not even the OP that has to insert their own unsolicited advice ;)

I do LOVE dogs…. However, a lot of people have no clue how to control them properly. My opinion… only after working at an animal hospital for many years.

Judgement? No, we are terrified of drivers with out-of-control dogs distracting them and risking our lives. Read the many posts here.

No one has mentioned it, but your local coyotes are a solution for any problems you might have with domestic animals of about 25 pounds or less ...

How about this pet bed for your back seat at Amazon?
7 different colours.

It is big, has screen for A/C psss thru and dog viewing up front.
They can put their cold wet nose on the back window and both side windows.

Al you need to do is train them to not jump to the front seat!
