For production efficiency you typically try to minimize your supplier base.

You do not order one roll of steel or aluminum for 2 doors and different one for 4 doors.

You do not order injection molded 2 door parts from one supplier and the same 4 door parts from a different supplier.

You do not order one length drive shaft for 2 doors and a longer one for 4 doors from a different supplier.

As always, there is more to the story than Ford is telling us.

That's why we're only seeing leaks from the factory right now of vehicles with soft tops and vehicles with no tops.... no hard tops available right now.

Could be why all the fitting of the Fastback soft tops we are seeing. Ford might decide to offer the 2DR with a soft top to speed deliverys.
I’ve noticed this as well and it’s been freaking me out a bit.

Ship that bit*h with the soft top and call me when the HT is in, hell, I’ll even pay for the soft top!

I was pretty surprised by that, too. I think you'll have a huge number of people wanting the 2-door right off the bat. Then once people actually start living with them and realize a 2-door may not be functional for them, the demand will die down just like it did for the jeep. I wanna say FCA stated the 2-door jeeps are less than 10% of all jeeps sold; it may even be closer to 5%. I might be off on that, though.

That’s one of the leading options. The other is completely cutting out the threaded studs from the floor and rolling out a heavy rubber mat over the entire rear area. I’m going to drive it for 6 months or so before I decide.
