Here is the good stuff.

Ever see a Baja 1000 truck with a high lift? theres a reason......

I'm looking at this currently.....

I have to drive home from work but i can expand on this later.
As others said, the hi-lift does a few other things as well. That being said, their 3-ton solution is quite nice and won't require the limited resources of propellant.

A bit off topic, but even with the horrid logo, I love the Jerry can mounting solution here, especially as somebody who already owns a few Wavian cans. Great form factor and use of space/hardware.

Are they different than the standard NATO can?

How does it winch?
A high lift is not a winch. It can pull things a few feet, not a winch. Not to be confused with a winch.

A jack is a jack. A winch is a winch. A high lift is neither. Its kinda like a swiss army sledgehammer or pull/push.

A hi lift is like having sex on a Chevy S10 bench seat. You could do it but there are better options available, like the bed.

So I will rephrase the question.
How can the products you referred “pull things a few feet”?

The OP was interested in lifting and “pulling things a few feet”.

From Morris 4x4, can mount Handyman, horizontally,$200. I'm cheap, so I'm working on a similar home built.

And this from Rough Country $115, which I think could be modified with carriage bolts to do a Handyman or Jerry Can.

OP never mentioned pulling things a few feet.

" given up on a winch" was his sentiment.

OP has not even replied again.

OP has not seemingly operated a high lift, from vernacular used. A high lift is a shit jack, and a shit winch. It has uses, but its not the easiest or safest for inexperienced personnel.

I would say they are exactly the same. Mostly because Wavian makes the NATO Jerry cans. You're simply referring to the can by one of it's customers instead of the manufacturer.

Looks like it will certainly work. That is not to say it's the easiest solution, however!

Overall it's certainly a debate each person who plans on driving off road will have to make if they want a mounted winch or other means should they get stuck. I just plan on always having a cooler full of cold beer and relying on the kindness of others. (okay, not really. But there isn't a bumper out there yet that I would want, plus no build date so I don't care about a solution for another year)

On the garage wall or in a corner, where it belongs:LOL:

Now if someone is talking about the ARB lift which is safer but more for just lifting and not winching/comealong, the last thing I'd be doing is mounting that on the exterior. You know how quick that'll be removed? People don't want to spend the $800 on one but they'll definitely be after that ARB.

" A high lift is a shit jack, and a shit winch. It has uses, but its not the easiest or safest for inexperienced personnel. " True, but a Handyman (old guy, so I don't use the term Hi Lift) can extricate you from most high center stucks, which for me are the most common type. Not so good for limited traction stucks, but in those conditions turning around might be best.

The main thing to remember is: 1. go slow and easy 2. maintain situational awareness 3. know the vehicle WILL fall eventually it's just a question of when and knowing how to use this to advantage (see #2).

And never change a tire with a Handyman without a jack stand (or giant rock) as back up (see #3)
