Well, the flares are ~$100 for a set. It'll be one of the first things replaced. I'm in high desert, not really a need for mud protection.
Where did you see that?
By the way the flares aren't so much for mud protection as much as they are to protect throwing stones at other vehicles. ;)

I picked it up on one of the many videos I've seen this year, I am thinking it was a Ford video. I do not have a price sheet but for extremely inexpensive injection molded pieces, at that price Ford would have a nice profit.

As far as other vehicles, that really is not a concern with the area I now reside, more cattle and horses than people.

I am in either the delete or smaller fender flare camp personally.

Who can tell me what the negatives are to removing the flares all together and going with deletes?

A fine? Here you can't have your tires poking out...

Not sure that would be an issue for me. Seeing trucks like the one below is fairly common in Nebraska.

Very true, very true.

I have read folks mention chipping their own paint from having deletes but wasn't sure if that was a rare thing or something to be genuinely concerned about.

I've heard that too, and honestly, one of the key reasons I won't do it. You could always install that clear "wrap" on the side of your vehicle to help with that - I have it on the front of my Grand Cherokee right now and you can't even tell.
