That’s a good video. The biggest thing you see on here with people is just looking at the final ratio, and not the whole system. He offers a simple way to look at things.

Great video to understand gearing. With that said I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed 😂. The base model automatic comes with 3.73 gearing. The manual comes with 4.46. From my understanding upgrading to 33 inch tires the 3.73 will be sluggish off the line but better on the highway. My question. Is the 4.46 gearing the better option for 33 inch tires?

The Badlands, with 33" tires is 4.46, so yes.

I was looking at BD vs Badlands after watching this video. Seems the Badlands with 33’s and the 4.70 ratio is needed for that tire size. So, as a noob, is going from the stock BD to 33’s splitting hairs with the calculation he does in the video. I ask because Ford went with the 4.70 ratio, so should I, if I plan on putting 33’s on a BD?

I see 4.70 ratio on B&P.

edit: I see the 4.46 ratio is available on Badlands though.

Standard BL gear is 4.70, if you get the optional automatic, it forces a change to 4.46 (SQ keeps the stock gearing)
Edit; they're are only 5% different, not really even noticable

4.7 is with the Sasquatch option or manual transmission. The automatic gets the 4.46 on the Badlands.
Just saw that, my B&P is defaulting to 4.70 with no Sas package added. Weird. Good to know though, since I’m one that is going to go to 33’s on BD after the factory tires wear out.
