The CFO at Ford is not arbitrarily changing the reservation number for conservatism purposes or any other reason. Analysts aren’t stupid, they know what reservations vs orders mean.
Toystwo, Perhaps a breath before typing is in order? Your response comes across as if you have unimpeachable expertise of which you speak, and the person you're responding to doesn't. And perhaps some light reading - https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-a-cfo-can-ace-an-earnings-conference-call-1428364502. Expect you have a WSJ subscription and have no problem getting to this.

John, I don’t see how that article has anything to do with reporting something inaccurately in the name of being conservative. I think it implies the direct opposite in the statements about how carefully materials are prepared (read — how important accuracy is) and how much time/rehearsal goes into it. It’s a very big deal in all public companies and credibility (not synonymous with being conservative) is a crucial part of it.

I was a CFO for many years and I’ve been through many earning calls in various capacities. I feel very confident in my statement regarding how a CFO of a major public company handles that kind of information.

Who knows where we will be in terms of the economy when orders start, will people have more or less discretionary income. Will there be a vaccine in Dec and renewed optimism. This had to have played some role in Ford’s timing/strategy. I know these factors might impact my order.

That number is also being reported online from sources like Autoblog and Car & Driver.
They both got their info from somebody here. Both of those articles referenced Bronco6G.com

Seriously why does anyone give a crap if the number is 150k - 230k or a god dang million, I think we all need to do is take a breath and sit back and wait to the build and price configuration comes up and then Over analyze and be pissed that white roofs can’t be ordered or rear AC vents are missing
Relax and enjoy it’s Friday!

I said this yesterday in another thread. Yes 230k is big but cybertruck got 650k.

Only 30% of those probably take delivery which is around what has happened with other car reservations.

People are also saying how great it is that ford got a 23M$ free loan. Haha 23M is what gets lost in seat cushions to 26B$ company. Also they don't see it. It just sits at the dealer. So dealers get 500res*100$ = 50k free loan. Who gives a ****. People are just bad at math and tend to overreact

We're either going end up eating zoo animals like socialist utopia Venezuela or we will be doing awesome like before all this virus nonsense. The virus won't even be a major thing when production starts, possibly when we even get to place orders.

John, I don’t see . . .
Toystwo, thanks for your reply. Tempted to respond, but thinking people aren't on the forum to follow two suits debating fundamentals of corporate communications. Moving on to the item of interest. . . .

Ford 2nd quarter earnings call transcript is out and we can see what was actually said about reservations (https://www.fool.com/earnings/call-.../ford-f-q2-2020-earnings-call-transcript.aspx)

CEO Jim Hackett - "Our entire team, like the over 150,000 customers who reserved one, are super excited about the Bronco."

CFO Tim Stone - no comment on reservations

COO Jim Farley - "As far as the Bronco that we've received, over 100,000 reservations."

Perhaps of greater interest for those of us looking to get a Bronco before 2022, Mr. Farley went on to say

"That [Bronco] operation is on a two shift pattern. So we have some upside. We have a lot of work to do because these are reservations, not orders yet.

So we have a lot of work to do to verify that. The mix is great and the enthusiasm. And we still continue to get lots of reservations. So the team has multiple capacity studies.

We do have some opportunity. It would commit to another shift, which is a big deal for us, as you can imagine. But obviously, the reception has been really positive and looks sustained now."
