I've been doing cylinder heads and gaskets, leaking valve covers(cracked) engine oil pans(plastic junk) sensor issues, all in f150's,haven't seen any ranger issues yet,and 0 mustang 2.3 issues
Are the issues you’re seeing with the first gen or second gen (2018-present) motors?

If you’re getting the auto, you have to get the V6. The 4 cylinder clashes with the image of the Bronco. Small tiny engine in a tough rugged off road machine. I would cringe every time I had to tell someone it’s a 4.

My Charger with the 5.7L has an 18.5 gallon tank and I average 17.5 mpg mixed. I’ve never once wished my tank was larger and my previous vehicle had a 26 gallon tank. Going off the beaten path for awhile? Grab a few jerry cans.

I was also going 2.3. Then changed to the 2 7 just for reason down the road! Camping/pulling. Whether it's an RTT or a small camper. Sad to hear the 2.7 is trash now I wonder if I should change back!!

The 2.7 isn’t trash, it’s just a technicians worst nightmare for replacing turbos. That’s my only hang up on it, I will do my own work once warranty is up. Look up rangers with tunes and performance parts, they are getting above 300rwhp. My 2000 Nissan Frontier 4x4 only has 175hp and I think it’s more than enough on and off road. Cant see how the 4cyl bronco with double the hp will be worse.

The 2.7L has the fewest complaints over on the F150 forums.
The 2.3L reputation on the Mustang and Focus forums is,... different.

That's hard data, not anecdotal evidence.

Sounds like if everything is taking care of shouldnt have any issues! Oil changes on time plus quality oil!! Possible oil pan upgrade!

The F150 forums are obviously comparing the 2.7 to the 3.5,so your point is somewhat moot.

I'm still on the fence... Having gobs of power from the V6 would be nice. And if I decide on auto, I'll 85% probably go with the 2.7L
But the 7 speed is still intriguing!
Difference in mileage will come down to the added weight and more internal resistance of 6 cylinders, which won't be a huge difference.
As for driving, it WILL be my daily driver (Badlands, un-Squatched) and it'll be racking up the miles!

I'd take an NA 2.0 if it was the only option to get a manual transmisssion. If the 2.3 can't maintain 75 mph on the highway, I don't want a Bronco anyway. It was fine in the Ranger I test drove, way faster than the 2.7 in my Tacoma. Other than needing to keep up with traffic in town and cruise at 75 on the interstate, my junk is going to be in 4 low the rest of the time anyway. I've never needed 400 hp to go 15 mph....
I have motorcycles if I want to go fast.

Go for 2.7l ... the only difference cost would probably be in the insurance but who cares hahahaha

I love I4s, but in this particular case the 2.7 is far superior to the 2.3. Ask certified and not shade tree mechanics most will tell you go for the 2.7. Everyone knows you can tune the 2.3 yadi yadi. You can also tune the 2.7 yadi yadi. I will admit I am a shade tree mechanic, but doing my due diligence and discussing with mechanics contributed to my thought process.

Drove a Ranger yesterday - plenty peppy compared to my 3.8L Rubicon, especially imagining a manual - but the Mazda / Nissan sounding buzzy four cylinder noise left me underwhelmed.

Chuckling... Counting up the number of anecdotal complaints and tabulating them is hard data alright, but it is just hard data on how many anecdotal complaints exist on a forum. Has exactly zero to do with the reliability of an engine in a particular application, just about how many people took the time to bitch on a forum.

My only concern on the 2 door is range.
How much worse will mileage be?
We're only talking 18 gallon tank... Even the range on 2.3 won't be great.
Then theres the added weight...
2.7 ll the way . The smaller tank doesn't concern me as the 2dr is also smaller and lighter so it will average out . I also have to stop to pee after a few beers anyway and I also need to pick up more beer .
