My mom and grandpa are big fans of all things Route 66. He has done the full trip multiple times and my mom has done smaller day trips in Illinois where we are from, but not the full stint. Last year for Christmas, I got her a 66 sign and said I’d buy her a train ticket to Chicago so we can do the whole Illinois stretch together. I thought it would be more fun in the Bronco than my F150 I used to have.

Last week we made the trip from Chicago to the Chain of Rocks Bridge near St. Louis. Snapped some neat pictures of the Bronco at some roadside attractions. May not be exactly what a Bronco was made for, but it was a fun and memorable trip regardless!

Love Route 66 and old gas stations especially since my Grandfather had a Standard station in the early 40’s through the 50’s in Missouri.
I snapped this picture in Santa Rosa NM a couple weeks ago.

..... a Bronco was made for, but it was a fun and memorable trip
I can assure you, that is EXACTLY what Broncos are made for!
Here at B6G and at ClassicBroncos.com, there are COUNTLESS stories about sharing great times with friends and family in a Bronco.
This is what makes the Bronco so legendary.

Your road trip sounds FANTASTIC!!!
We've done several as well.
Thanks for sharing!

Good on you! I was so happy to read your post. I purchased my 2022 Big Bend with the view that my wife and I will make our first trip when retired on Route 66 in my Bronco. Starting where we got engaged at Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park, going the long and slow way to the Santa Monica Pier. Right now I have five Route 66 books I am pouring through, and planning a 21-day venture out. Maybe take Highway 50 (the loneliest highway in America) up north and then hitting Route 30 back east. Please keep me posted on this thread! Get your kicks on 66!

I'd say it's one of the trips the Bronco was exactly built for. Nice!

Nice write up and some great pictures. It's a bit sad that more people don't slow down and enjoy the ride more. It's too bad so many of these towns have become almost ghost towns. Look at Tucumcari NM, not much going on there anymore. When we drive to Phoenix, we cross paths many times on Route 66. Reminds me of my youth going on vacation.

Great moments. We [my wife and I] are planning an entire Route 66 journey, from start to finish. On the beaten path and off.

Regarding "what the Bronco is made for"... imo, it's made for adventure, whatever that adventure be for you, may you always find the path and enjoy the journey! Bronco will get you there!

Me too.
Back in the 60's my childhood home was SoCal. Every summer went spent 2 weeks on vacation in Arkansas and passed by many of these icons on the way to and from.

Everyone should do road trips with their families, build those memories.

I need to check that out next time I'm in IL, looks really cool. Love the pic with the White Fence Farm sign, I grew up in Chicago and remember White Fence Farm well, had great chicken and sides.
