Dallas/DFW is big... very big. Recommend you live close to where you'll be working, if possible, unless you like traffic/tolls. No state income tax, but property tax *more* than makes up for it. Also, beware that the cost of living has caught up to the relatively high wages. All told, other than the high cost of living, high housing prices, overcrowding, traffic, extreme property taxes, hail, heat and tornadoes... I suppose it's not a bad place to live.
What is all of this crap? High cost of living? Texas? LMAO! Have you ever been anywhere else....ever? To the OP....don't listen to any of this.

Hey Philly, I will put my money where my mouth is...When you get here, I will meet you at the Babe's of your choice, my treat! I will show you some of that true Texas hospitality! ....and hopefully by then I can show off my new Bronco!
Count me in! I’m hoping I’ll have my Bronco before I move, but I’m not holding my breath.

Philly, make sure you stake your claim to the Free 72 oz steak in Amarillo when visiting Palo Duro Canyon.

https://www.bigtexan.com/72-oz-steak/

72oz Steak Challenge Rules
72oz Steak Dinner Challenge Includes: Shrimp Cocktail, Baked Potato, Salad, with Roll, Butter, and of course the 72oz Steak
1. Entire meal must be completed in one hour. If any of the meal is not consumed (swallowed)…YOU LOSE!
2. Before the time starts, you will be allowed to cut into the steak, and take one bite. If the steak tastes good and is cooked to your satisfaction, we will start the time upon your acceptable approval. The time will not stop, and the contest is on, so make SURE before you say “yes.”
3. Once you have started you are not allowed to stand up, leave your table, or have anyone else TOUCH the meal.
4. You will be disqualified if anyone assists you in cutting, preparing or eating of your meal. This is YOUR contest.
5. You don’t have to eat the fat, but we will judge this.
6. Should you become ill, the contest is over… YOU LOSE! (Please use the container provided as necessary.)
7. You are required to pay the full amount up front; if you win we will refund 100%.
8.You must sit at a table that we assign.
9. If you do not win the steak challenge, you are welcome to take the leftovers with you.
10. No consumption or sharing of the leftovers is allowed in the restaurant once the contest is over.
11. If you fail to complete the challenge, you must pay the full $72 dollars.

Absolutely no chance I could handle that. :ROFLMAO: That thing is bigger than me!

Not interested in arguing with anyone here. I'm military 26+ years, and lived many places across the country. Just speaking from my personal experience. Cost of living is higher here than anywhere else I've been so far. Not saying it's a bad place to be, just somewhat pricey.
Northern Cali-
San Fran would like a word with you..

Lived my entire life in Texas, specifically the DFW area, here are a few things people have mentioned, and may not have mentioned......

1) Dallas is not TX, it is not country (hipster vibes)...Fort Worth is TX, country and Bronco types of people....not saying Dallas is bad...but a Bronco community would slide more to Ft Worth.
2) Babe's Chicken Dinner House (Try the location in Roanoke, TX - it was their very first location)
3) Schlitterbahn - Unsure if you have kids, but going to this water park in New Braunfels, TX is a rite of TX passage for kids, and at nighttime on the vacation visit by Grist Mill for dinner and the Dance Hall in Gruene, TX.
4) For someone working in Farmers Branch, unsure of your "scene or homelife (kids vs. no kids)"
---IF Kids, recommend living in Coppell, Grapevine, Colleyville, Corinth, Lake Dallas
---No Kids, maybe Addison, Farmers Branch, and if looking to bar swing with hipsters find a downtown Dallas loft (But be careful of area - get a younger knowledgeable realtor for party scene location)
5) Tex Mex: THIS WILL BE A DEBATE so only tossing out some of my favorites that are close to me and some that are somewhat "franchised/multiple family owned locations"......Mi Cocina (multiple), Velvet Taco (multiple locations - BEST elotes IMO), Baja (multiple locations), Mi Dia From Scratch (Multiple Locations), Los Compadres (Roanoke, TX), Torchy's Tacos (Multiple Locations "Fast Casual"), for fast food reference (I know don't judge) Taco Casa versus the others...I'm sure there are many others that are good as well that people can recommend.
6) Non Tex Mex Gems: Marty B's (Bartonville, TX), Heim's BBQ (Ft. Worth, TX), Love Shack (Ft. Worth, TX), Rodeo Goat (Ft. Worth, TX), Whiskey Cake (Multiple Locations), Pecan Lodge (Dallas, TX), Chef Point (Grapevine, TX)
7) Billy Bob's - Immediately visit a Cavender's or Justin Boots, or Boot Barn and get yourself a nice pair of cowboy boots, and then take a weekend night to head over to Billy Bob's (The world's largest honky tonk) and listen to some country music and drink some beers, pretty much any country artist that has ever existed has graced this location.
8) Not a recommendation - TX is a driving state, so an hour away is not a long ways away....and if someone let's you in on the freeway from the onramp, remember to wave, or potentially feel the TX "Bless Your Heart"....honestly, just wave anytime someone does anything remotely nice while driving (it's not hard).
9) We are easily some of the nicest people you will ever meet, just remember when in an argument and wanting to avoid a TX dustup, offering to buy a beer settles most everything (utilize this to find common ground). *Unless you feel you are more of a country person (Ft. Worth) and arguing with someone in Dallas, then just give them a nudge and it will be over ;)
10) Attend a high school football game, recommend for over-dramatization of our love of football Allen High School (just google their home game schedule)
11) If you have kids (here are some fun places - depending on age) Peppa Pig World (Grapevine Mills Mall), Legoland (Grapevine Mills Mall), Six Flags Over Texas (Arlington, TX - the first location ever for Six Flags), Coyote Drive-In Movie Theater (Fort Worth, TX), Fossil Rim Wildlife Park - you drive car through "zoo"), Fort Worth Zoo (best in the nation!),
12) For gambling: Casino Winstar (Thackerville, OK - about 45 mins to 1 hour north Denton), Choctaw Casino (Durant, OK - about 45 mins to 1 hour north of Plano) [Winstar > Choctaw], Lone Star Park Horse Racing (Grand Prairie, TX).....

This is not nearly all the knowledge I could part on you, but should help.
Wow awesome insight! The waving whenever someone does something nice while driving is second nature to me here in Michigan. I was just talking about it to someone today when I waived to another driver for letting me proceed at a four way stop, even though I had the right of way and she was just obeying the law.

Also love the idea of getting past disagreements by buying a beer. Seems like good practice in just about any situation.

The feedback from all of you has gotten me a lot more excited! Hoping to get down there in the next month or two to check some things out... just waiting until is warmer there than it is in Michigan. :ROFLMAO:

Calm down there buddy! Just commenting on my specific experience. I'm happy you have had a cheaper experience in DFW than I have. As stated in my other post, I've lived in several states across the nation. The property taxes here are higher than anyplace I have lived. The closest I've seen to them was when I lived in Connecticut. They didn't build these $70 Million dollar high school football stadiums in the DFW area from low tax rates! I live in a modest home in the DFW area and pay over $8k/year. That's not cheap by any stretch of the imagination.

Just signed the paperwork for a new job and I am moving to Dallas! It's not an immediate move because the offices are not currently open, but I will be making the move shortly after they open up. Right now they are predicting September, but it could be as early as May. I have never been to Dallas, or even Texas, but have heard lots of good things! Also, this job is an excellent opportunity for me so it is worth the risk.

I figured I would reach out on here to connect with some of the future Bronco owners from Texas! Any tips or advice? Restaurants I absolutely have to check out? Warm weather Bronco mods? I know I am reconsidering colors (again) given there is on average 100 more days of sun a year in Dallas than Detroit! I could not be more excited!

And most importantly, what on Earth are you all going to do about that front license plate!? :ROFLMAO:

EDIT: To be more specific, my office is in Farmers Branch. Still learning!
I believe you said you were single. If so, you're going to love the DFW area. Hot women everywhere. Spring, summer and fall....whew...you'll see. As far as the heat goes, hit the local lakes....big time partying during the summer. Great food all over the area. I live in Grapevine. Great small town feel in between Dallas and Fort Worth. My wife works a little north of where you'll be working and it takes her about 35 minutes to get to work from Grapevine. Hit me up if you need local advice. We love it here and don't find the cost of living high.

Haven't lived there, but you are referencing likely some of the highest places in the nation. So yes, I concede that DFW cost of living is lower than the highest places in the nation.

But no state income tax. Example, Louisiana, the more you make the more you pay in income tax. Make $300k a year there and your state income tax is $18k a year. Make that same cash here and live in your current home and you can clearly see the difference. My property tax is also $8k a year in Grapevine. I'll take property tax over income tax all day. One of my close friends here makes $850k a year. I can't even imagine paying state income tax on top of fed tax making that type of income.

That’s so wild! We have had some big temperature swings here in Michigan, but from 0-72 is a pretty big swing! Last February we went from about -10 to 35 over night.

This crazy ass arctic blast Uri is a once in a lifetime thing for Texas...Now, it does get cold and you can experience some pretty harsh winters in West Texas. But the rest of the state winters are very mild....(you'll wear shorts most of the time) Spring and Fall...Amazing camping weather! July and August can get pretty damned hot! Give me the Texas heat over this crazy $h!* we have experienced the last week.

I mean I wouldn’t mind one... my favorite is peanut butter if you’re baking them!
