A little background. I went back and forth on whether to get a 2 door or 4 door bronco. For me personally I didn’t need the space for family trips. We have a cx90 for our other car for long family vacations.
It’s me my wife and two kids. But I was concerned on space in general I knew the 2 door had less cargo space than the bronco sport even had which was a bit concerning. But I knew 95% of the time I was using it by myself or with just my wife.
I opted for the two door because I knew we had the cx90 to fall back on so with that said I wanted to share my experience. So this review is based on my 2 door base Sasquatch.
We recently decided to take a short trip up north to go hiking and fishing for a total of 3 full days. We do a lot of traveling and over the years have figured out how to pack on the lightand wanted to see what we could get away with taking the bronco.
I have to say I was pretty impressed. The two teenagers (16 and 18) sat in back wife in the front (with a boot on cuz she broke her foot). Now my kids are on the smaller side you know less than 130 lbs each so bear that in mind.
It was a 4 hour 15 min drive to our destination. So it wasn’t as roomy in the back as the kids have been accustomed to that was concern number one. The feedback I got from the kids was it wasn’t bad they were pretty comfortable most of the ride. The one complaint my daughter had was she couldn’t sleep against the side of the car because the drink in the cup holder was in the way for that. It was a McDonald’s cup so no where else to really put it. So only having the 4 cup holders proved to be a bit of a challenge.
So the bigger question I had was the loading of everyone’s stufff. Everyone had a backpack with their clothes, I had a small duffle. I also had a yeti hopper 18. Two two piece fishing rods with a small tackle container. A tote bag with 5 board games. Another tote bag with some dry goods completely filled. I had my laptop bag that was full. A couple pillows.
In the yeti hopper I put a thing of bacon, sausage links, a container of juice, 18eggs, a pound of sandwich meat, a pound of muenster cheese, a couple sticks of butter and the yeti ice pack that’s about an inch thick that fits perfectly inside to fill the dimensions of the hopper 18. Had to Tetris everything inside but it fit. Groceries up here are quite expensive cuz it’s the middle of nowhere so I figured I’d at least cover breakfast and lunches this way.
The kids obviously preferred taking the cx90 but they said it was comfortable enough. My wife with her broken foot had enough space to stretch her leg out a bit. I’d call it a success for me personally and the family said they would be happy to do that again.
below is a picture of the pack out. It was neater when we left but then my daughter was digging through when we stopped for gas.
Anyways just wanted to share my experience so if someone else is on the fence that it might be helpful in their decision. Happy to answer any questions I didn’t provide feedback for.
edit - I should also mention the kids loved the large window in the back, moon was super bright last night so it was a really awesome drive through the backroads, forest areas, lakes etc. I also appreciated having that larger window on my drivers side door.
