The world’s premier traction aid for the Ford Bronco is here. ARB is proud to introduce the Air Locker for the M220 rear axle.

Providing instant grip at the flip of a switch by preventing the internal differential gears from rotating and therefore preventing the axle shafts from spinning independently of each other. Without it, the factory open differential only sends power to the tire without traction; but in reality, the tire that needs power is the one that has traction. This system is great for on-road driving but disastrous when off-road, making the selectable locking differential the ideal choice for most four-wheelers.

Why Air Locker?

The original Air Locker was developed in the 1980s. This design featured a three-piece case with an air actuated cast piston. A true, revolutionary piece of 4WD equipment for its time.

But as time has passed, the sport of off-roading has evolved exponentially. Large tires and engines in that era do not compare to what is being used today. 37” and 40” tall tires have become the popular choice. V8 engine swaps outputting over 500 horsepower are no longer few and far between.

To get ahead of the curve, ARB’s team of engineers were tasked with developing an Air Locker that would hold up to the future of four wheeling. The research and development consisted of many torque and failure tests on the Air Locker and other lockers. At the beginning of the 21st century, the new and improved Air Locker was released. It featured a two-piece design, less internal parts, forged gears, and a patented timed locking system; all of which make it the world’s strongest locking differential.

Its limits have been put to the test, not only surviving but also winning multiple Ultra4 off-road races where drivers run 43” tall tires and 1000+ HP.

Many of our competitors still use the old three-piece case design that we manufactured in the 19th century.
