We did tech inspections on the three 4600 Broncos yesterday at KOH. Brad Lovell's, Loren Healy's, and Bailey Cole's. I was working on getting Sunday's desert race going and finishing tech on the trophy trucks, spec trophy trucks, and class 1 buggies and missed when Brad Lovell's Bronco came through tech, but was there for Loren's and Bailey's.

Some here had asked for pics of the winch mount, so I took some of that. These trucks were designed by Ford Motorsports and then built by Geiser Bros. They have 74 Weld portals on the front IFS with custom A arms, and Dynatrac Dana 60's in the rear. The front diff is the stock M210 and the steering is full Howe trophy truck rack and pinion. The engineer that was there said the engine had to be raised slightly to allow room to fit the winch with the trophy truck steering rack. They are using the stock 2.7 engine and the 10 spd auto trans, but the transfer case is an Atlas II.

There are three great drivers who will be racing each other and the rest of the field on Fri Feb 4th. Brad Lovell has won 9 class championships in different categories and was DirtSports Driver of the Year in 2012. Loren Healy is a two time King of the Hammers winner and series National Champion, and Bailey Cole is a two time Ultra4 Legends class National Champion. It should be fun to watch these three battle each other and the rest of the field in these new Broncos on Friday. King of the Hammers racing is live streamed for those interested in watching.

Racing with a stock 2.7 engine. I guess the 2.7 is a beast after all
Stock engine is a requirement for the 4600 class, along with tranny and frame amongst other things.

The engine that came in the car is required, but there is no limit on engine modifications. Still, the 2.7 on premium gas and with a good tune, which no doubt Ford put on it, is not bad. I won the first 4600 National Championship in 2013 and we ran a 300 hp Jeep 4.0 stroked to 4.7 and built. The 2.7 has more power than that. And yes, they cannot modify the frame. The frame can be added to, so new suspension mounts and things, but nothing can be removed, and no sheet metal or body panels can be removed or modified other then for tire clearance.

BTW, Eric Miller, who is also a two time King of the Hammers winner, will be driving a 4dr 392 Hemi powered Jeep Wrangler. I heard Brad Lovell caved in a rear quarter panel and broke a tail light pre-running yesterday. He was seen pounding on the steering wheel mad at himself for doing it. We'll see what shape the bodies are in when they finish the race, if they finish, especially if the racing is close when they get to the rock sections.

The winch is up against the front crossmember, behind and below the intercooler.

I'll find out. I'll see them again doing contingency inspections on Wed, or I'll just go over to Bailey's tent and take another look if I get a chance. BTW, Bailey is going to take me for a ride on Sunday if the Bronco is still running after the race.

And, I don't have internet except early in the morning and late at night, too much bandwidth used here during the day, I have to be in the motorhome with my cell phone booster.

Oh, and if anyone is interested, they should be qualifying today, Tues, during Power Hour which should be 4-5 pm Pacific time on ultra4live.com. Qualifying is on the short course and their time will determine the starting order.

Congrats on your Championship win, that's amazing! I've been watching KOH since about 2015, and the 4600 Stock class has always been one of my favorite to watch. Having the 35" tire restriction, plus the engine, frame, etc. makes things interesting to see how teams play within the original vehicles constraints to an extent, while still pushing the modifications. Gives folks a good idea what that vehicle in their driveway can do with some decent modifications and a full body without running a full tube chassis, front/back halfing the frame, dovetailing, swapped race engine, fiberglass panel everything, full race buggy stuff, etc.

But don't get me wrong, I love Vaughn and Loren's 4400 Class Broncos, but there's damn near nothing on those vehicles that make it a Bronco, minus the lettering on the front grill. Just less relatable for the average viewer. One of these years I'll get out to KOH to watch in person, but in the meantime I'll be pulling for Eric Miller from home. Have fun out there
