I like it hidden and will hide mine there even if I make my own mount.

I just thought everyone on here that rock crawls way more than me said it was junk to put it there
I have been pinned up against rocks that would have made a hidden winch unreachable, there fore unable to winch me out. I can see both sides but I'd like as much assess as possible.

And I’ve had a front mounted winch bumper that sticks out too far make climbing obstacles miserable.

becuse if the bronco design front mounts are garbage too

It's tough to find the best of both for sure.

Wouldn't the 4-door wheelbase be more fitting for KOH? I'm a little surprised to see the 2-doors, though they look badass

Uh obviously not! The 2 Dr's rule! 4 Dr's don't have enough breakover angle.

I was thinking Ultra4 buggies trended toward the 120" range of wheelbase but, yeah, the 4-door Bronco does have a lot of stuff hanging down in the middle so I can see that being a liability on the rocks.

We did tech inspections on the three 4600 Broncos yesterday at KOH. Brad Lovell's, Loren Healy's, and Bailey Cole's. I was working on getting Sunday's desert race going and finishing tech on the trophy trucks, spec trophy trucks, and class 1 buggies and missed when Brad Lovell's Bronco came through tech, but was there for Loren's and Bailey's.

Some here had asked for pics of the winch mount, so I took some of that. These trucks were designed by Ford Motorsports and then built by Geiser Bros. They have 74 Weld portals on the front IFS with custom A arms, and Dynatrac Dana 60's in the rear. The front diff is the stock M210 and the steering is full Howe trophy truck rack and pinion. The engineer that was there said the engine had to be raised slightly to allow room to fit the winch with the trophy truck steering rack. They are using the stock 2.7 engine and the 10 spd auto trans, but the transfer case is an Atlas II.

There are three great drivers who will be racing each other and the rest of the field on Fri Feb 4th. Brad Lovell has won 9 class championships in different categories and was DirtSports Driver of the Year in 2012. Loren Healy is a two time King of the Hammers winner and series National Champion, and Bailey Cole is a two time Ultra4 Legends class National Champion. It should be fun to watch these three battle each other and the rest of the field in these new Broncos on Friday. King of the Hammers racing is live streamed for those interested in watching.

Awesome insights, but I am still disappointed they were in the 4600 class with those.

Why is that? Stock frames and bodies. They perfectly met stock class rules.

BTW, I can post a bit more info and pictures at the finish later on. Very cool that they finished 1-2-3, was exactly what Ford hopped for, and gives them great promotional material. It's a very good thing that Ford is again supporting off road sports and recreation.

All things relative here, the ultra 4s have 40s or 42s also and likely have 12” more ground clearance as well...this allows a longer wheelbase, as it is balanced with the taller height as well. Long wheelbases are for family outings NOT hard-core wheeling.

How do they access the free spool switch with a hidden winch set up?

What you don't want is the winch out in the front. It ruins the approach angle. If you have seen the light Brite video with the broncbuster, he scrapes the bumpers every time he goes down the steep rocks.

With it mounted low and "inside" it maintains a good approach angle and low in the chassis for a better center of gravity.
plus it looks better hidden, I'm not a fan of those ugly spools of cable/rope sticking out front. And yes, not mounting anything that will reduce approach angle, only things I'll ever add will make it better and have a purpose, not just for looks and bling.

good question, my guess would be you'd just have to unspool it with the controls unless you want to crawl underneath? So might not be a setup for someone that winches often.
I'd only get a winch for that just in case I get stuck moment and might still just opt for a hand winch or comealong. I don't have any plans to hit trails that pretty much require a winch to get through.

the 4600 marketing is working because it one of the main reasons why I bought my 2 door to compliment the raptor. The 100" wheelbase is a tad short for a dedicated desert runner, but for the mix of high speed/technical section of KOH make this the ideal platform. Especially when considering the 35" tire limit.

Im in love with the stance and the higher approach angle of the race style skid plate/hidden which assembly. Im going to do my best to mimic this look as soon as my 1/31 week gets here....

fox 2.5/ads 3.0/and king 2.5 are on order for testing/comparison. its going to take awhile to get the valving to what it should be. If only RTR sold their fox shocks with the Koh tune and the finned cactus cooler reseviors!

I have a few more pics that I just took. One of the major achilles heals of the Bronco is the crappy ground clearance for rock crawling. The angled braces on the crossmember on 2.7's, the low hanging gas tank, and the low hanging rear lower control arm mounts. All of these issues were resolved on the 4600 Broncos. You can still see plenty of rock rash underneath. They also had full UHMW plastic under all the skids. And there is full boat side style rocker protection. Those pesky angled braces for the 2.7's aren't there, but those would be considered part of the crossmember/trans mount and are legal to modify or replace.
