Would anyone have any experience traveling with a dog that needs to be transported in a Kennel? Specifically a Gunner Kennel? My 55 lb GSP can only travel in a Kennel and he would need an intermediate-size kennel. I have a 2 door on order and was thinking of deleting 1 of the rear seats with the Goose gear kit but I am unsure if it will fit width-wise.

I have zero experience with Gunner Kennels.

But if we are talking about the "standard" crate sizes... I happened to measure this for my mother awhile back. (She's a dog breeder.)
  • 20" x 13" x 16"
    • 2-door: Fits
    • 4-door: Fits
  • 24" x 17" x 19"
    • 2-door: Fits
    • 4-door: Fits
  • 30" x 18" x 20"
    • 2-door: Fits
    • 4-door: Fits
  • 36" x 22" x 25"
    • 2-door: Fits with seats down, crate will be at an angle
    • 4-door: Fits
  • 42" x 27" x 30"
    • 2-door: Nope
    • 4-door: Fits... but it is real tight, and you'll have to slide the crate out to get the dog out
  • 48" x 29" x 32"
    • 2-door: Nope
    • 4-door: Fits with the seats down, but create will be at an angle and it's real tight
If you remove the rear pod speakers, you have a lot more flexibility with the larger crate sizes. For example, the 42" crate fits in the 2-door once you remove the rear pod speakers.

Thank you for your reply RagnorKon.

So a crate with the following dimensions will not fit in a 2 door because of the rear speakers:
34" x 23" x 28.5"
Would it wedge between the seat and the door if I removed one of the rear seats on the 2 Dr?

I have a medium in mine. I deleted both seats and it still takes up a ton of room. Don’t regret my choices though.

I would assume so, but I haven't measured it with the seats out.

The rear speakers are just shy of 31" off the load floor—probably closer to 30" if you installed a cargo area liner to protect it. Obviously if you take the rear seats out and the load floor becomes flat, then 28.5" is shorter than 31" inches and you should be just fine. But I don't know what the 2-door looks like under all of the trim pieces. And again... haven't measured it with the seats out.

I have a collapsible wire crate. Not ideal for off-road travel, but fits on folded seats on 2 door. I stand the crate up when it’s inside or it won’t clear speakers. My dog is an Old Bulldog. Almost 100lbs. I hardly ever have him ride in Bronco, but in a pinch the wire foldable crate works well. He is not able to stand up in crate which is good so he isn’t roaming around in it. I will try and remember to snap a pic next time.

Thank you everyone, for the recommendations and advice. This is very helpful!! I hope that by removing the rear passenger-side seat, I will have enough room to fit the kennel. Width is really what I'm most unsure of. The width would need to be greater than 23" inches with the seat removed.

I have a large Ruffland for one of my dogs.
35x27x22 but tapers top and bottom to about 18ā€ so it fits between the speakers when on top of the folded down seats.
I use a hunk of 4x6 under the front of the kennel to make up for the folded seat height and run a strap over the top to the aft ā€˜D’ rings on the deck.
Works great.

Only 21-5/8ā€ at the floor. Little more as you go up the seat and side panel.
