Is "change engine oil soon" accurate?

I had my oil changed with full synthetic at 17,000 mi, not too long ago. Is this change engine oil notification accurate? Does it actually analyze the oil and oil level, or is it showing me this based off of my mileage? I doubt the tech at the Valvoline oil change place reset it when he changed the oil.

Yeah in your case, I'm sure they just didn't reset the timer.

And no, it does not analyze the actual oil. Instead it analyzes and calculates base on driving history.

Personally I never trust those. I wish they'd just get rid of them because I think they do more harm than good by allowing people just to drive until it tells them regardless of mileage.

The oil change indicator is based on vehicle usage--things like short trips, hard driving, etc. It's not based on a hard mileage number. Some people dislike these, but it is better than simply going to a set number of miles between changes because there may be circumstances where driving habits dictate a more-frequent change interval.

its accurate based on what its set at
dealer can set at
5k
7500k
10k
i have mine set at 7500 to do the works
oil and 5 tire rotation & blades
id set yours at 10k to start or just hit reset to 100%
as dealer has it at 5k so your adding another 5k

Definitely didnt get reset. If not mistaken then owners manual says 7500mi but I think the dash is 10k. If you plan to keep your Bronco for 100k or more, change your oil at 5k or youll be spending more on repairs in the long run.

keep in mind that ecu may track and store the oil reminder events and Ford can use that as criteria to deny an engine warranty claim in the future (I don't know that for certain, but it is feasible)
