Is having a spare tire on the back rear door simply a styling trend?

Another stupid question....on a trail a temporary spare may not help much....is this why off-road vehicles don‘t simply offer a temporary spare under the cargo area?

The new defender has the same spa tire/gate set up as the Bronco, correct?

I agree they suck, but just wondering if the could use the small tire and have a different door situation.

I wish EVERY car had a full size spare on the outside. Would make those 5k tire rotations so much easier, because you can include the FULL SIZE SPARE into rotation!
