they look pretty close... only difference is that baja has 4wd? Thats an acceptable "sacrifice".

wonder if you can put it in baja and then change it to 2wd...

edit: or maybe you were partially agreeing, Im not sure. but unless theres varying levels of calibration not captured in a "normal, soft, tight" description that differ, baja looks sufficient for me to be satisfied.

The Base model comes with Sport Mode. So I am going to use one of my aux switches on my Base for a rocket booster.

Good thinking.

Here is my set up plan:
Switch 1: Rocket Booster
Switch 2: Parachute
Switch 3: Pellegrino mixed with grape juice dispenser
Switch 4: 70/80s mix tape player of favorite numerically oriented songs (Includes songs from 2112, 1984, 5150, 10,000 Maniacs, I can't drive 55, 99 Red Balloons and of course Tommy Tuntone's "8675309")
Switch 5: Light saber battle sound (full 3 minutes).
Switch 6: Something practical like lights, or compressor, I guess.

LOL, I was being sarcastic, but you're essentially correct. Picking a trim based on having or not having Sport mode would be like choosing a trim because you prefer the name or badge.

I've got a 2016 Ecoboost Mustang - the first things I do EVERY time I get in it, are put it in Sport mode, then "Race" mode, then disable all the traction control/advancetrack stuff, before I even pull out of the driveway. Every. Single. Time.

So true, I can't stand drive by wire.
No you don't. :)

Seriously, drive by wire is what allows things like sport mode. But more importantly, it allows mapping the accelerator to a more linear throttle response. Every engine has peaks and flat spots in its power curve. In the old days, we used to whine about those flat spots. Drive by wire is one of the ways we can "tune out" the flat spots and enjoy a more consistent response from the engine.

Same here. No way sport mode is a reason to change your model, especially the features compared to the OBX and Wildtrak (wash out floors, sway bar, marine grade vinyl)

I would prefer sport mode, but it’s a 5k lb truck, I live in the suburbs, it’ll be in normal or eco with the top off 75% of the year, 25% in slippery for snow season.
People are changing trims to avoid stitching color. They are delaying delivery or changing exterior colors to match a hardtop color. Drive modes seems like a way more valid reason to change in my opinion.

I only need Sport mode in this beast off road... I have that with Baja mode. On the street it will be plenty quick for the way it is designed. ?

Why in the world is Ford selling a vehicle with an integrated function no one understands?

Wouldn't it make a tiny bit of sense if they just explained what it does? Duh!

Baja adds 4HI which can be switch to 2HI. Is also keeps the engine RPMs at 4000 to keep the turbos spooled. Think about that in a street application. Not exactly ideal. Baja is an off road mode for a reason.

I just picked up a '20 Ranger, and it has the sport mode also. IMHO I really don't understand, or see any reason a 2.3L truck like the Ranger needs that. So whether, or not my Bronco has it is not a deal breaker for me. Now if you want to talk sport mode, the wife's Mustang 5.0L is an absolute hoot in sport mode. That I understand. :)

Still not a good reason, but better than those others mentioned...

but for every beast, there is a beauty. ?

For sure. However someone wants to select or build their Bronco is fine by me. Their money, their Bronco, their life!

To bring back on topic for a moment, I would like to have Sport mode, but Rock/Crawl and MGV are more important to me. I also don’t think Baja and Sport are the same except for 2H vs 4H. The Raptor chart a few pages back indicated separate engine and transmission modes for Sport and Baja Hope that I don’t miss out on much without Sport.
