Is the 12" screen really an upgrade we all want?

if you have never used Apple CarPlay or android auto then you will love it. I would not buy a car without it.

This is something I'm looking forward to. In my wife's Acura MDX, we have to buy a "DVD" disc that updates the nav and then run it through an install/update process. The disc is $150 (goes on sale for $100 though) plus shipping. We do the update every several years but with all of the new development and new roads in our area, we are behind before we even get the disc.

The older I get the more tech I like.
Can you give a few reasons why the ACP is so good?
I've never used it.

It will read incoming text And if you wish to respond you can dictate back. Some apps like Waze will display on the sync4 screen. And of course you can use google maps instead of the oem nav. They are adding more features with every Apple OS release.

Sounds cool.
I use gaia for my mapping for off road stuff. Do you know if ACP will support that by chance?

Hey, it's all gravy as my current car has an ~4" monochromatic screen that provides information such as radio station and ... well, that's about it.

Same here. This will be my first infotainment screen. 8" will be enough but if 12" isn't too crazy I may just go for it.

I live in Texas, how are these things in the heat?

I'm on the fence but the 12 might be too hard to turn down. I put a Kenwood touchscreen 7 inch in my Mustang - it's the perfect size for the cockpit and IMO the lighting at night is not overwhelming.

Eh. I only use Google Maps because of traffic updates. Otherwise I hate it compared to Sync 3.

It pauses my music too much to tell me directions. It needs a "tone only" option. Even disabling street names, "in one mile, keep right. Keep right. Keep right. In one half mile, continue straight. Continue straight. "

I hate having to exit AA to make changes to climate/seat controls.

It really needs a "shut the hell up for 5 minutes so I can get gas" button. For that matter, it never recognizes "Kwik Trip".

They added "report speed traps" but you can't do it in AA. The notification is usually 10 seconds *after* you were in radar range.

Waze's interface feels even less refined.

The nice thing is projecting my phone screen so I can watch YouTube during my break on the navigation screen without Bluetooth audio lag

When was the last time you updated Sync?

I have a 2018 Lariate (wife) and I have a 2019 Raptor and all the issues below no longer exist.

Mine's a 2016 so it doesn't get quite the same updates as you. I updated a few months ago where they introduced that annoying "full brightness in reverse".

All of my complaints were with Android Auto, not Sync -- the only one Sync updates could fix are Bluetooth audio lag or climate controls. Flex does not have physical buttons for seats or vent positions.

If you know someone with an Iphone you should try apple car play in your car.

Will both the 8" and 12" screens have the same features, or do you get additional software capabilities with the 12"?

I.e. do they both support wireless ACP/AA?

If it was a stand alone option I would get the 12". Currently though, the high package has a bunch of stuff that is just eh to me.

Waiting on B&P to decide between a Base/MT/Sassy and a BL/V6/High package. I'm either taking the lost leader, or going huge. Right now I'm leaning toward the option that will save me 20K.
