Issued VIN but changed paint color

I feel like I've read people on the forum who already had had VIN issued but had success changing the paint color? Obviously things shouldn't be able to be changed once a VIN is issued, but I feel like I remember seeing some people did have success where they only wanted to change the paint color.

I know I'm probably misremembering or something...but wanted to just double check if anyone has been able to. I'm a hardtop build that's been pushed from July to the non built October November group. Really want to change from Oxford white to AMB. Mods feel free to delete if this is a redundant question and waste of forum space lol

I know of 2 that changed their paint color post VIN but that was because the dealer ordered the wrong color.

Hmm does the dealer get dinged for that? I feel like based on my communications with my dealer they don't really go above n beyond and doubt they would change it for me on a "dealer error" label or something
