Really interesting concept and tech, but man...getting the feel for it and doing it yourself is a large part of the allure. The sense of adventure and accomplishment just simply can't be duplicated by hands-free tech.
Impressed with the tech advancement that allowed this, but it is scary as well.
I can't help but think the end game/result is specific trails whose maps are in the system being the only ones legally travelled (at least on any non-private land).

Yeah I don’t want a vehicle to drive for me, I feel like these are a useless feature for the off-road community. Why would you not just sit at home in a VR if you don’t want to interact with the vehicle and environment. I can see it now, so moron sleeping while their Jeep goes off-road and off a cliff cause a system error. SMH.

If I wanted to sit and watch I’d ride shotgun and drink my beer.

This is a big YAWN.
DARPA did this challenge 19 years ago. Is Jeep just getting around to it?
So , who is this intended for?
Would you want to trust your $100K+ vehicle to a computer some video gamer programmed? These navigational autonomous systems all suffer from the lack of deep-depth perception and probability arbitration. They can't assess what is more than 100 feet in front of them. A critical skill of any off-roader who doesn't want to go over a cliff, flip their rig, or end up in a box canyon.

I can't help but think the end game/result is specific trails whose maps are in the system being the only ones legally traveled
Isn't that the definition of a tram?

IDK, probably? Yes? Either way, not something I or anyone else I know who enjoys getting away from pavement wants to see happen.
