Anyone see the video of Loren Healy doing that climb in a stock Bronco? And Iā€™m not sure either why that guy was so far to the left to start?

I think he was just trying something a little bit harder and in this instance, it did not work out.
Glad he is ok, thats all that really matters.

As long as the engine is fine, I can see that being rebuilt. Won't be cheap, but it will be cheaper than a new rig.

It probably doesnā€™t help that there is a crowd of onlookers. Chest swells up a little bit, take the harder line to show your better than the guy before you.

on a different note, Iā€™ve seen several videos where the wrong line on fairly simple obstacle results in a rollover.

I think there is a reason all the rocks to the right of him are black.

Welp - if it wasn't before, I guess it no longer a daily driver / is just a trail rig.

Always remember to keep your arms/legs inside if this ever happens to you and always wear your seatbelt off road. Example of driver error in line choice and this an extreme situation of where a manual offroad can potentially save you in a case like this *if* youā€™re prepared for it. Youā€™ve got more control with an auto and thatā€™s why theyā€™re generally preferred for rock crawling. However, unless you have your hand on the shifter ready to pop it into neutral when you get too far off camber, you can end up in situations like this while doing serious crawling. With a manual, you can depress the clutch to let it freewheel and you might be able to save it. Stock roll cage thankfully held up very well. No injuries. Anyways, here it is:

... and then the trail guide says, "Who's next"!
Talk about making your butt pucker......

Either a deer in the headlights moment or this guy couldn't move very quick because of the giant set he's carrying. Barely moved an inch.

Damn! This right here is why I stay out of the rocks. Glad he's OK. Time to make that Jeep a full on buggy and exo-cage over the body.

Side note, that has to be one of the ugliest wrap jobs I've ever seen.

1 - How can this be fun?
2 - Do you think the next guy in line got out of line and went home?
1. Some people just want to live on the ragged edge ... of the large hill they're about to roll down. Potato Salad is a pretty straightforward obstacle, unless you're that guy and decide to you need to be different.
2. It's a out and back trail where Potato Salad is pretty much the only reason to drive down it. I imagine nobody else went up that day and attention was diverted to recovering the rolled Jeep. Then again, EJS has been known to be pretty indifferent to trail breaks. Usually they stop the run just long enough to get it to the side of the trail. Then the occupants of the downed vehicle either hang out and call in for a recovery or hop into someone else's rig to get back to town. Maybe this was the same deal.

Think the hydraulic swaybar disconnect would have saved his bacon? I mean a squatched Bronco would have made that look easy, right?
