I went with this set up. I didn't want a permanent mount. I haven't taken down the road yet, I got it for a trip I'm taking to Southern Utah in a week or so.

I've driven with mine 80 mph with no problems. Just make sure the ratchet strap is tight!

I saw your post right after I posted mine. It seems robust enough and I like the ability to take it off and throw it in the garage when I don't need it.

Exactly. I don't keep them mounted all the time. Also I swap it easily to my 76 Bronco trail rig when I want to.

Mine requires spare tire delete. Not sure if that's where you're wanting to go. I wouldn't recommend my placement if you still have the factory tail lights. I had to put a door limiter on my tail gate and I've got Oracle flush mount lights.

Edit: I was unable to use the last bit of gas because I must have put some cheap ethanol stuff in it. I refused to pour rusty orange gas into my nice Bronco. Maybe plastic would be the way to go. 🤷‍♂️

I have the RTR mount - it's off the Bronco right now because I only put it on when I need it, takes just a few minutes to mount or dismount. I use a tailgate limiter to keep from impacting the tail lights on the Bronco - I went with the Mountains2Metal limiter, it's quite good.

I'm very happy with the RTR mount, but as others have said, it's pricey.

I've got a similar setup that i use occasionally, not necessarily for jerry cans though - those ratchet strap mounts are great. Try to keep both sides weight balanced though - don't run a full can on one side and an empty on the other. The strap will hold fine, the tire will start to wobble a bit more over bumps though.

I wonder if the added weight compromises the spare tire mount and tailgate?

There's probably a hundred different threads on this forum on exactly that topic if you want to search for tailgate reinforcement.

The official capacity for the tailgate at stock is 133lbs, which includes the weight of your spare.

I'll drop this thread here, it's one of the more all-encompassing ones.

Thank you for the information. I might need to go ahead with a tailgate reinforcement next then to help stabilize the spare with the extra weight. Cheers.

Do you have any issues with the loose fitting cans? I am not able to get another turn on the mount even with pliers and the cans fit loosely.

Mine are fitting tight right now. I bought Vevor brand and they seem good. I have not filled them and driven around yet. I'll know more in a couple weeks when I get back from vacation and give them the full test after 400 miles on the highway and a week of off-road abuse...
