Just thought I'd ask before I need to know, but any issues jump/push starting the Bronco? Every manual I've owned had a key and could have the ignition turned on even with a dead (or no) battery. What will be the procedure for push starting the Bronco with a completely dead battery?

Carry a small jump pack at least enough to power the ignition system. Then give er a push would be my go to.

The jump start procedure is covered in pages 300-302 of the Owner’s Manual. Doesn’t seem much different to a keyed vehicle, except you push the button to start. Be careful not to turn on the headlights when disconnecting the jumper cables, though, because the peak voltage could blow the bulbs.

I edited my first post to mean push starting and not jumping from another vehicle. Kinda interchangeable terms in use but certainly different meaning. Roll down the hill and pop the clutch. Not sure if I can turn the ignition on to get spark with no battery. I guess this is the first push start vehicle I've owned.

Good question, I’ve never had a manual with a fob and push button ignition. Maybe if you just turn it to accessory on? Probably have to actually hold the brake, hit the ignition, let it try to turn over, then push start it. Wouldn’t surprise me if that didn’t work though.

I could see that working if you have some battery but just not enough to turn it over. Not sure that will work with a completely dead or missing battery.

Great question. That scenario never ran through my head until now. They definitely aren’t going to have that one in the manual. Batteries were a low priority in the early 90’s with a fresh license, stick shift car and all 4 of the seats full! 2 doors for life👍

I guess provided your rolling clutch out, your generating power as soon as you tap the button to run. I think you will have to be the alpha tester.

I went 4-5 months without a battery in my mustang when I was 18. Just had to be real careful where I parked. It's always nice knowing you can roll down the hill to get started. Just not sure if the ignition can be switched on with a completely dead vehicle.

Maybe pop the clutch then hit the ignition switch to open the circuit. Of course the brake won't be pushed and doesn't that lock something out?

I think a trip to the top of your nearest hill is in order and disconnect the negative. Try pushing button once or twice on the roll. Update with results if you do it.

The brake only needs to be pressed for crank, it will still allow “run” position without brake I believe. That’s the grey area!

Not going to work if there isn't at least SOME battery power to run the electric fuel pump. You can get the BCM/PCM to KOEO state by pressing the start button without stepping on the brake...but that also puts it in ACC...so you gotta watch all the warning lamps on the dash. Push button start in a PITA!

Good question, you probably won't be able to disengage the parking brake though.
