Anyone look into a quick release for the awning?

Is that the aspen lite? Regular or XL? Opinions? Got a closed setup shot?
it’s the aspen lite xl. I love that it is lightweight and the sleeping area is plenty big enough for two adults and two small dogs. I’m a side sleeper and the 3 in mattress wasn’t enough for me to lay comfortably so I added their cloud topper and it helps incredibly, but makes it difficult to close all the way with two blankets and the ladder. For the price, it is hard to beat.

My biggest concern is how it will hold up long term. The latches and hinges leave a lot to be desired and driving around without the cover bag off, I do wonder if it’s only a matter of time before the fabric top starts to break down. Of course I could put the bag on it again, but then that makes setup and breakdown more cumbersome.

The only other RTT that I can compare it to is the alucab lightweight lt50 and it is definitely better in terms of comfort and space, as well as some of the conveniences like lights, iPad pocket, and diesel heater pass through. I definitely got the better bang for the buck, but time will tell if it holds up.

This is perfect, thank you! I Keep going back and forth between the aspen and aspen lite (and their xl versions) as well as how the xl would look with an awning.

Do they have any recommendations to preserve the fabric? Like a UV resistant spray? Figure the cover might be good when you aren't camping for a while. I like the idea of the space of the Aspen V2XL but an extra 44 lbs on the roof is nothing to sneeze at.

I have the Aspen Lite small version, been working great for me. Went this route because of the weight on the OEM rack. Just this summer so far, handful of trips. I leave the fabric cover on full-time. Way too much of a hassle taking it off/on, I'm too short.

I asked them about that and they said that it is already coated for waterproofing/protection and didn’t give me any more recommendations.

I was really concerned about the weight as well. Turns out once I upgraded my suspension to stiffer springs I can’t really tell the difference anymore. Idk, maybe I’ve just gotten used to it at this point but I think an extra 44 lbs wouldn’t be too noticeable.

I'm coming from a Tacoma I get off camber on regularly and the weight up high on the Bronco combined with the shorter wheelbase already feels like a whole other animal, I definitely would like to not make it worse. But then again I'm not "supposed" to be getting myself into the crazy shit I get into with that truck lol

I do like they have cross bars avail for it now too. Would be good for snowboard trips and adding solar.

One last question, I noticed it seems your awning is mounted below the rack a bit which makes it so the tent doesn't need to be offset too much to the passenger side. Are you using something other than the awning mounts Trailrax sells to do so?

I’m using these awning mounts:

I had to drill an extra hole and secure them with a couple u-bolts. I’ll post some pictures when I get home

San Hima on a Hooke Road rack.

One of them howls like a banshee on the freeway with side winds. San Hima is difficult to get support with so I don't recommend them.

Yeah my concern was if I mounted the 270 I have to your rack with your mounts the XL would need to be heavily biased to the passenger side.

I would appreciate that, thank you!
