I believe there is a lot more to these tail light housings then just some plastic surrounds. But maybe it's just me.

They appear to go deep into the body... I suspect they will tie into the body structure. They also have a piece of 1" tube welded to the frame for lower support... and what's with the foot stirrup?

Did they make one off's for the R? I doubt it. These housings are substantial... way more substantial then to house a couple bulbs and a lens.

I suspect they will be an integral part of the rear closure and maybe even part of the tire carrier.
If I remember correctly. D.O.T. laws say that a fully functioning taillight (brake/turn/running) has to be attached to the body. Not the bumper or hatch/tailgate. Plus it has to be visible from the side. I could be wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time, just ask my wife.

Tslater… sounds like or wives could be related.

After reading my post again... what I typed didn't express my thoughts correctly. I think the lights would be integrated on the body.... and be an integral part of the rear closure "latch" and perhaps part of the spare tire carrier.

They are just to substantial in size and mountings to house just the lights.

This kinda/sorta appears to shed a little on the stirrups for me anyway.

I just wish that they would take this, raise the front a hair, add a removeable top, and slap a Bronco onto that bad boy.

well... that didn't help at all.

I see the basic shape of the lens in the R housings... but it certainly doesn't explain any of the other wonky stuff going on with them. That photo cuts off the money shot IMHO.
