Ok so I have a killer Bronco already with an Icon Stage 8 suspension running 37s steering rack upgrades, tie rods etc and I run hard offroad rock crawling trails from CA, UT and fast desert in Baja. The Stage 8 has been amazing especially in Baja but I cant help thinking I can get more and by more I mean more travel, wider and ability to go faster in the desert and eat whoops.

so I’m considering a long travel kit say on the level of APG (not a pro-runner budget 🤣), Baja kits etc… but looking at all options and suggestions and if I can use any existing suspension to minimize cost is a bonus. Not interested in portals…

On the other hand I'm not sure the cost justifies the incremental improvements from where I'm already at. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Appreciate your suggestions. Thanks

Good to see another bolt-on long-travel kit

I’m really happy with my APG (bolt on) long arm. It is still pretty expensive….but I was able to use the kings I already owned and just swapped the springs from 550lbs to 650lbs. I may end up going down to 600lbs springs just to get it to sit a tad lower. It has been nice not lifting a tire at every single obstacle like it used to.

Wonder if I could use my Icons with that kit.

Great info. Thanks I emailed them. At first glance it looks promising if I can use my existing Icons.

If I remember right they say any aftermarket 2.5” coilover….the long arms put a lot of extra leverage on the springs so you would probably have to go with a heavier spring. I bought mine on Black Friday last year for a significant discount off the normal price….they had it shipped out in about a week or so….im sure a quick call or email and they could give you a idea if the icons would work.

The oem LCAs provide about a 1.6 motion ratio (16” at knuckle divided by 10” at shock location). Increasing LCA for long travel, assuming a 3” increase, for total of 6” increased track width. This gives an increased motion ratio of 1.9. Even more if the shock location moves slightly to get more leverage.

So most of these kits are gonna increase motion ratio by >20% (1.9/1.6). So correspondingly the spring forces go up by same amount, 20% or so. A 500 lbs/in front spring now should be closer to 600 given same length or amount of preload. You are not just going to be able to use your icons as is without changing springs.

great info thanks. The Icons now are great do you think its worth going long travel at all in comparison? Just small gain or will the extra width and travel make a massive difference in the desert and rocks?

Same. I saw they gave Post Malone a set for his Bronco that just gets transported from show to show and never driven ;) Maybe we should ask for a set to actually use

It might be worth giving it a try, assuming your vehicle will weigh about the same. Supporting the same amount of weight with the same springs. High-end shocks should be able to manage a greater motion ratio.

The extra articulation improves traction by keeping all four tires planted. Those traction-aiding devices work better when all 4 tires are planted.

I would think you can change springs on the icons if needed. I would give them a call and explore the options.
