More math. Kind of getting over my skis here so take it with a grain of salt. Purely estimates. This is all propped up by the assumption the the control arms are the same in Sasquatch vs non Sasquatch

I really doubt that the Ford wheels have 55mm of offset, I can't find an aftermarket wheel with that much offset. I think the Raptor is unique because of its unique suspension. If Ford really has that much offset, it will be a while before we get custom wheels.

I appreciate your math/effort... but I think we need some solid answers

Closest I could find was 17x9 with 38mm backspacing

I really don’t think that’s too far off. You’re talking about a ~5” or so backspace on the OBX wheels. That’s probably pretty close. Most factory wheels are very positively offset.

I probably am wrong- Here are the specs on the Ranger
ranger offset.JPG
Yup. SEEMS off. Was prepared for the second guessing. But the 55 offset was taken straight from the ranger equivalent 7.5 wide wheel.

and if you look at the OBX 7.5” wheel it’s apparent that the non-concave, flat face probably calls for 6” or more of backspace

then look at Sasquatch wheels. It feels like roughly 2” concave or more, so almost 6.5” backspacing on 8.5” wide wheel.

then look at the badlands overland concept. It was published those 8.5” wheels had zero offset. Meaning it protruded 2” beyond Sasquatch flares (the car had Sasquatch flares not badlands flares), Which I think most would agree seems accurate based on photos

those three things above all seem to tie out. Surely not exactly, but it feels like it’s within range.

Legend, now that I am looking into it further, if you could get a sense of clearance between the control arm/knuckle on the black diamond steelies that would be clutch!

it’s actually the perfect wheel to create a baseline to see what else could fit. Here’s the wheel on the ranger vs Black diamond. Same bolt pattern, 17x7.5, 18 holes, and surprise surprise, again with a 55 offset. Tire is 31.6x10.4 with a backspace of 6.42”

Big moment of truth to see how wide we could go on aftermarket tires...

OP, I like the math but as mentioned we need the backspacing because your drawings might imply to some that there is 9.2” to 10” from the inner side of the tire to the inner wheel well wall. And while that may be technically true, the issue we need to control for is the the possibility of the tire hitting/rubbing the upper control arm on the front wheels which (in the pic below of the chassis with squatch wheels and 315s) appears to be less than 1 inch away from the tire on the Sasquatch wheel - which means it may be even closer on a OBX or Badlands wheel. The rear wheels appear to have the room. For this reason I can’t wait to get the true backspacing on all the wheel options.

Yes this. This is my main worry with the Sas. I run tire chains periodically and while I chain rears first, I want the ability to chain fronts. My sons Tacoma will not allow chains on the front for the same reason. That's why I may swap 315's for 285 or 275 if I Squatch.

Nice photo, thanks

EXCELLENT!!!! HUGE THANKS TO LEGEND.

So this image was almost spot on -

FOR EVERYONE'S BENEFIT:
The steely BD tires are 10.4" wide, and the OBX tires are 10.0" wide. We have confirmed 55 offset for the steelies, and 1" gap from upper control arm. That means OBX has 1.2" gap, if that wheel is also a 55 offset like the rest of the Ranger 7.5" wide wheels. This also makes sense because that means the sasquatch would have 0.6-7" clearances from the upper control arms (which ties to the photo of the sasquatch suspension that everyone is freaking out about - it looks to be between 0.5-1").

That means an OBX with a 275/70/R18 (10.8" wide, 33.2" tall) tire would safely be 0.8" from the control arm. Heck, you may even be able to go a bit bigger. Although, I would start to be a little concerned about rubbing on the front bumper. Steel bumper on the OBX looks to give you slightly more clearance BTW.

This feels good. Nailed it at 1" extra clearance, and nailed the 4mm extra lift from BL to SAS that Ford confirmed.

@Administrator Not sure if you want to make this a sticky, given the beginning of the thread and all the drawings are so technical and hypothetical, but Legend's feedback is very positive. We've n confirmed the extra clearance. This could be a game changer / money saver for those opting out of the sas package, or BL.

This thread is fantastic, but I'm lost when it comes to the technical knowledge. So for average joe, what aftermarket 17" wheel width and aftermarket tire size will fit on a BD?
I'm shooting for a 17x8.5 with 285/70r17.
