Is this only an issue with which transfer case one has? Advanced 4x4 vs non advanced 4x4? The FAD is only on the non advanced 4x4, correct? Otherwise it should be a bolt on solution?
I don't think so, Just_Jim doesn't have advanced 4x4, everything does bolt-on, but without the fad, there is no 4wd since the truck is expecting the fad. He attempted to add the FAD back hoping that it would fit, and it did, except for the shaft that's a bit too long. AT this point, the only way to get the axles upgraded on a non advanced 4x4 will be with software.

just order SAS and you will have no issues

šŸ˜¬
Yeah, but that wasnā€™t an option with a manual two years ago when I ordered. Now, hindsight says there wouldnā€™t have been a big difference in wait time if I had waited a year to order, but there was no way to know that back then.

Oh well, Iā€™m in this for the long haul anyway and plan on 4.88s when I do make the swap.

Well, the FAD off the m190 Does NOT fit the m210...

At least not without cutting the intermediate shaft down about an inch and resplining the outboard end.

The shafts are 29 spline. CV axles will interchange. The housings even match up. But the innards are a no-go.

So your saying the m190 half shaft will work with the m210? That side note is one reason Iā€™m waiting as it adds significant costs. It also claims you need a new front drive shaft as well. Did your driveshaft bolt on as well?

Not quite...if you look at the axle chart from Yillbs the 4.27 geared BB (like mine) also does not have FAD and has the standard 4wd transfer case. I would think the programming for this model could be used to get the no FAD M210 to work in a model with regular 4wd.

You have a BB with no FAD and standard 4wd?

If you have a FAD, the ECU needs to be reprogrammed to not expect it to interact. If your m190 lacks FAD - you suck! šŸ¤£ Because it's a direct swap.

Yes. For some reason, BB's with locking rear and 4.27 ratio M190's do not have FAD. (I just went out and verified to be sure I hadn't been hallucinating before). OBX's with 4.27's don't either, but they were available with ADV 4x4 stand alone when BB's were not.
This may be the reason (adv 4x4 on OBX w/o Sas), but the BB with 4.27s and standard 4x4 is the unicorn when it comes to FAD. Check Yillbs chart.

Side not, I'm happy not to have FAD, I feel better about shift on the fly and still get 23 mpg

The CVs are larger on the m210 axles. The drive shaft is likely upgraded in strength as well, but I didn't check when I had them both out.

Yes, except the M210 is not available with 4.27, the only ratio with standard 4x4 and no FAD.

I tried a bunch of code from Dgorsett's AB data and couldn't make mine happy. I'm beginning to think it's something deeper than what Forscan sees.

As such, I gutted the inner axle shaft out of the FAD housing and will be bolting it to a stub stuck in the inner side of the RR crash bar pocket up inside the frame next to the exhaust tomorrow. That makes the ECU happy and will suffice until my dealer appointment on the 18th - unless Ford gets back to me with a solution first.

There's only a snap ring holding the bearing in the housing, and once removed I was able to tap it out just hitting it on the floor.

As previously mentioned, I made a bracket to hang the gutted FAD to as a temp fix.

Started with the factory crash bar and cut it so it would fit reversed into the frame pocket without protruding into the wheel well. Then cut a dual-purpose notch out of the (new) inner end so it will clear the depth stop that's stamped into the frame tube and allow access to weld in the beheaded carriage bolt.

After cleaning up the edge so it'd still fit down the hole, I hit it with a quick blast of paint.

Again, it's not really about " Sas ". My reasoning for the upgrade is to get better MPG, I'm not even wiring in the lockers. However; you can't purchase the 4.73 without lockers. This thread is clearly about swapping axles, so the anecdotal " Just go buy something else " isn't really the answer, hence the reason the thread exists in the first place.
Don ā€˜t you wish you could just slap a pair of warn manual hubs on it.
