This does not make a Bronco EV look realistic for years to come, how long will it take for a nationwide charging network to support Ford vehicles?

A man's panicked search for an electric-car charging station between Boston and New York reveals one of Tesla's biggest advantages over its rivals
- A Mustang Mach-E driver had to pull over four times to find a charging station during a 200-mile trip.

- Axios editor Dan Primack said he felt panicked as he searched for a charger that would work with a non-Tesla car.

- Increasing charging infrastructure is a key step toward electrifying transportation in the US.

Charging infrastructure poses a major hurdle for electric-vehicle adoption and one man found that it represents an even greater difficulty for drivers who don't own a Tesla.

During a drive from Boston to New York City, Axios editor Dan Primack said his battery dropped past 23% before he was able to find a charging station that would work with his Ford Mustang Mach-E.

"EV owners not only need to plan, but also need backup plans when the original ones fall through," Primack wrote.

Yeah, if you have trouble finding compatible charging in that region and route, can't imagine what it would be like in the less populous, larger terrain states

Unless you can call AAA road service to come out and charge you up

Tesla is making their Supercharger network available to other vehicles later this year or early next, I believe. Will be a game changer for most EVs, and is a huge step as they have the widest spread, best maintained network.

Standardization of charging protocols will be in order at some point - can you imagine if gas stations all had different nozzles for different brands of cars?

On a smaller scale, phones mostly NOW have either USB C or lighting chargers.

Exactly, Apple has one, everyone else, has another. Why would competitors want to help competitors (Tesla vs everyone else)?

This sounds like a Tesla (or big oil) hit piece …

Like, doesn’t the Mach e have a 270 mile range? Why would you freak out over 200 miles? He didn’t have google maps?

if you’re talking about Tesla you’re wrong. They opened their patents years ago and the other manufacturers decided to ignore them. Even so later this year they are opening their super chargers to other manufacturers that didn’t get on the obvious leading standard.

Driver is an idiot. When you take an ev on the road you need to plan on your route. Btw … Tesla owners do the same when they take their cars on a long trip.

I actually read it the other way around. It looked like they were plugging (no pun intended) Tesla's charging station market share and willingness to share (for a price).

Take the number of people who believe we never landed on the moon...
Add in the number of people who believe Elvis is still alive...
Multiply by the number of people who believe the vaccine contains microchips...
Square by the daily number of EV spontaneous combustions.

Mach-e has a specialize ford app that tells him where all the charging stations are. I am doing a lot of research now as I may order a Mach e. Ford is the only ev maker that had done deals with all 3rd party charging companies where if a Mach-e owner can pull up to a charging station and use the ford app to pay. Without this, an owner would have multiple apps for each company

We have 3 level 2 chargers that went obsolete a few months after installing (thanks Ford/Lincoln). The 48A replacements, made by Webasto like the first ones, had a stop sales due to a defect. As of now we have about 26 Lightning pre-orders (Ford has more reservations than capacity, wonder if they have plans to deal with this) so we're looking at putting in a level 3 DC fast charger (which our city utility is completely unprepared for). Best I can estimate is it's going to cost us a min of $85K to put in a mid-size unit and the city will have to run a new service.

Electric is fine but the infrastructure to handle it both in commercial and residential, especially in more rural areas, isn't equipped to handle the extra loads. Besides our one Mach E, Lincoln hybrid and a guy with a bolt that lives in a neighborhood, our charges have had little use. Wait until people start buying these in volume and find out their home electrical service is undersized and can't do another 50A load. Buy an EV, spend $5K upgrading your home electrical system. I know the .gov is giving rebates but we are going about this backwards. We need capacity, upgraded lines/transformers/transfer stations before we find out the current grid is woefully under sized for the demand.
