There are several, make that a ton, of posts about the built in wireless charger being a complete POS - it heats up the phone making it turn off and doesn’t even add any juice during the charge. I’ve seen others post their mods, but I didn’t see any that I liked (no offense). Here’s what I did.

1. Purchased a MagSafe Charger - $15

While it’s not an Apple, I wanted it to be black and I didn’t see one from them in black.

2. Purchased RAM Mount MagSafe Holder - $13

This is a cradle to holds the MagSafe charger and it attaches to the arm coming from the dash (#3 Below)

https://www.amazon.com/RAM-Mounts-Adapter-MagSafe-RAP-B-202-AP-MAGU/dp/B09J9ZCDDD

3. Purchased Phone Mount - $33

This connects directly to the attachment point on the dash and offers a ton of different angle options to fine tune the placement of your phone. It even has some female threads on it to attach maybe a Go-Pro.

I then put all of the pieces together and used black electrical tape to hide the wires. This actually frees up the spot where the OEM charger is so that I can put my wallet and keys there. Now i can quickly pop my phone on and off and not have to use those clamps that most mounts have. It’s super convenient and holds my phone like a champ.

I am not sure yet if I like having the phone stare at me while driving, but so far it’s OK. Who knows, I may just stick the MagSafe charger on the dash and out of sight completely :)

Either way whether it is the smartphone or the charger it will need to use a cable so I find it best to get a fast charger with a good cable and then just use fast charger to charge directly to smartphone and either use a magnetic MagSafe holder on back or smartphone holder. The wireless charger will create more heat, not as fast and still needs to be plugged in so best to just plug into smartphone via cable to charge. I went with this option. Charger is Superfast. Magnetic holder never fell off. It holds my tablet and charges it as well

Agreed, the wireless charging isn’t as fast as the plug-in for obvious reasons. However, with the items I’m using I don’t have the crazy heat like with the OEM “charger” and it actually charges my phone. I love the slap-on, slap-off of the MagSafe mounts. My phone didn’t have the metal inside of it, so I bought a case that it built in, super easy. The OEM is complete garbage, I don’t know how Ford even let that make it through development. So dumb that we have to pay for something that doesn’t even work.

I'm doing something similar with a tackform arm and an Amazon magsafe charger that I've been using in my truck for a couple of years. I run power to the magsafe adapter out of the port on the dash (I have lux). Charges way better than the cubby charger and doesn't turn my phone into a hand warmer.

I have the tackform clamp style holder that I'll swap out if I'm doing any off roading, but for day to day driving I've found this setup to be plenty sturdy.

For reference sake, here's the arm from tackform:
https://www.tackform.com/products/d...h-ford-bronco-6th-gen-fast-track-dash-bracket

This is the magsafe adapter I'm using as well. Like I said I'm using this in my truck as well. Unavailable but there are a ton of options here.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08ZN869MV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The only thing I have left to change is to replace the factory mount with the SLAP BPM from Archetype Racing. You'd have to either order one of their 20mm ball mounts or get a longer bolt for the tackform ball mount. Mainly grabbed it just because, but it is nice to have a couple extra mounting points if I do end up needing them.
